yep..... still online shopping..... do you use a bottle warmer?  I see a few on the BRU website, and just wondered if you use one/like it, etc.

Thanks!!

Re: do you use a bottle warmer?

  • Nope. Just sit the bottles in hot tap water or use room temp bottled water to mix formula.
  • We never used one.  When I was pumping, we just left the breastmilk out sicne it can be out for 4-6 hours.  Now that we use formula, I actually warm it in the microwave right in the bottle.  The first week of formula, I did a hot cup of water but then, well, I got lazy and used the microwave.  I always just test it to make sure its not too hot.

This is exactly what we did with DS and will do with these 2!

  • We bought one for DD #1 and HATED it.  It was so inconsistent -- the bottles were either cold or way too hot.  At first we would just warm the bottles in a cup of hot water.  But, we found it easier to just add room temp water and shake.  So now we measure the powdered formula into the bottles once a day, then add water and shake as we need them.

  • No. I avoid using cold water at all costs so that I don't have to worry about warming bottles. We keep our Brita out of the fridge and just use room temp. When we go out I just bring bottled water.

  • nope- we did room temp from the start...
  • I got a baby pro and sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it. its just quicker and easier to have the powder premeasured in those little travel containers (with the 3/4 sections) and pre-measure filtered water into the bottles. No heating necessary! Also, a lot of people give bottles straight out of the fridge. Nothing wrong with that but one of my babies seem to hate it cold.

  • Nope.. we used the playtex drop ins with DD and we just filled a large plastic cup with hot water from the tap and let the bottle sit for a couple min.  The only reason we did this was because she was BF for 10 weeks and was used to warm bottles.  With the twins we plan to FF from the beginning so they'll just get room temp water in their bottles.

  • i make the bottles for the day in the morning and put them in the fridge and use the bottle warmer while i bf the twins. it makes life easier to have the bottle warmer so i don't have to remember to take out the bottles ahead of time to get them up to room temp. i just bought the cheapest one they had at bru. it isn't the most consistent but it does it's job and was $19.

  • The best piece of advice I ever got was to use room temp bottled water with the formula.  This is especially nice at 4 am.

You ARE doing some major shopping girl!!!!  : )

  • nope...we just keep a crock pot on and set to WARM with some water in it on at all times.  That way when you get up at 2am you just pop the bottles in for a few minutes...super easy! Save your money ;-)

  • Check out the books Twin Sense and Twin Set.  I can't remember which one it was, but it suggested using a crock pot to warm the bottles.  It says to keep water in all the time, with the temp on warm.  You can pop both bottles in the same time and warm them up.  It also suggests to keep it in a spot near where you will be feeding the babies, so you don't have to run to the kitchen.

I have a friend that doesn't heat her bottles at all, and hasn't had any issues with using luke warm water.  Good luck!

we liked having formula made in advance, and also did bm supplemented w/formula, or just bm.  it made more sense for us to have stuff in the fridge ready to be heated.

started w/hot water in cups.  as the girls started eating more we switched to the bottle warmer, since it was faster.  sometimes it would get too hot.  what a PITA.

eventually i started using the microwave... on defrost setting.  it NEVER gets too hot on defrost setting.  you just figure out what setting to do to be consistent.  once you figure out the time on defrost you get consistent temp formula everytime.  we use bpa free bottles.  i did ask the ped about using the microwave and he said it's fine... be careful of overheating/hotspots.   but again, i use defrost :)
