I know that we should have started this much sooner after DH came home. . . but until recently, LO went down super easily, and I didn't want to rock the boat. Well, it has become more difficult to get him down on many nights. There have been a couple of times, after over an hour, that DH has relieved me and gotten LO to sleep. . . but this is the first time that he is doing it from the get-go.
It feels weird to not be the one putting LO down for the night. I should probably be loading the dishwasher, or something else productive, but it feels pretty darn good to have my butt firmly planted on the couch! LOL!
LO napped for only an hour this afternoon, so I'm hoping that he is good and tired--meaning that he'll go down more easily for DH. I don't want DH traumatized by his first solo night-time experience.
Darn dog now expects me to take him out. He's gonna have to wait a hot minute. I'm relaxing!!!!!
(For any randoms out there who don't know the back story--my DH is not a slacker dad. He was deployed until LO was 9 months old. Once he was home, we moved and had a lot of other things going on. DH is really good with LO. We have both opted to take the "easy" way out for bedtime--which was me putting LO down--until now.)
Re: DH is putting LO to bed. . .
It is really hard to let go of that control and to do something that might not turn out well when you know that what you've been doing is working well. But won't it be nice to have a happy hour with me and let our DH's put them to bed?
That does sound delightful!!!
DH has been down next to me on the couch for nearly 30 minutes! Grant went down fairly quickly (thankfully). . . . yeah for successful solo bed time!
We will have to plan happy hour sometime later this month or early August.
) (Metro friendly so that we can ride home instead of driving!)
I remember the first time DH put Henry to bed. I was so used to nursing him to sleep so it was a really emotional time for me....plus the fact that it was also the night we gave him formula for the first time. I was a wreck!
DH has been doing bedtime for months now and it's just a great bonding time for them!
I hope things go smoothly tonight!
