PIPs: My Crib Bedding/Bumper/Nursery Dilemma

We are leaving the office/soon-to-be-nursery the current color, a tannish-green (Willow Gold from Porter Paints) with white trim. This is our crib: image

and the chair I bought for the nursery (pardon the crappy camera phone picture):

It is a super cute pattern, and has lots of different greens, blues, greys, tans, etc. in it. I have a mammoth oak bookcase that is a family heirloom that will also be in the baby's room. It will have some books and stuff on it, as well as those canvas baskets in different colors.

Now the dilemma: I can't decide if I want to buy a crib bedding set or just mix and match since most people don't have a use for the blankets out of them except to hang on the wall, and bumpers are cute but not used for long. Finding solid, simple crib bedding has been hard for me to find because I just haven't seen much that I love in the plain category. I did find a bumper alternative that I like -

and it seems to have good reviews.

So, would you girls just try to do the mix and match thing? or try to find a crib bedding set and make it work? Would you use the bumper that matches, or does it seem stupid that I want to buy the CozyWedge bumper instead of using the one in a set? SIDS is something that I worry about because one of my grandma's babies died from it, and even though I know it's nothing I caused, I just worry about it.

Thanks girls, and once again I'm sorry for rambling on and on in this post too. I guess getting up exceptionally early to be at the hospital before DH's grandpa's surgery has made me more tired than I realized!

Re: PIPs: My Crib Bedding/Bumper/Nursery Dilemma

  • I had 2 sets I was narrowing it down too. I actually bought one & took it back because I changed my mind and did mix & match. I wanted something unique for her. After I bought the bedding, I found out 1 of my cousins & a friend had the same set. I am in live w/ her set now. Carters has some pretty plain basic bumpers for a good price. pottery barn kids does solid colors. Their clearance prices are really affordable.

We bought it at a store in Pigeon Forge, TN. It was a furniture booth in a sort-of antique mall that had new stuff too. I don't know how to explain it. Sorry, I wish I could be more help!

  • I'm partial to the mix and match idea. That's what we did since I couldn't find a set that I loved. I also didn't see the point in paying for the blankets, etc that you don't use. We also chose not to use a bumper because of suffocation risk, so I don't blame you a bit! You could probably find some cute sheets and a bedskirt that you like to match the chair. That will give you more flexibility when you decorate anyways rather than being tied into a specific pattern. It looks like you're off to a cute start--I love the chair!
