March 2011 Moms

Cramps, anyone?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I've had pretty normal symptoms such as sore breasts, frequent urination, some heartburn, and I go to bed about 2 hours earlier than I used to.  One symptom I've been having, though, is cramping.  They feel like menstrual cramps, but are very mild and don't last for long.  They probably happen about 3-5 times a day.

I had a miscarriage last year, so I'm a bit paranoid, but I haven't had a single drop of blood, despite the cramping.  I read it can be normal to cramp, but I'm wondering if anyone else due in March is experiencing these early cramping symptoms???

Re: Cramps, anyone?

  • I'm still having them.  My Dr. said it was fine unless it comes with bleeding.

  • I know how paranoid you feel, especially after a m/c. I get the odd menstral like cramping every 2-3 days, lasting 5-10 minutes. I also get longer lasting cramps that don't feel like menstral cramps, more like twinges. They can last for a whole day.

Absolutely. I've had cramping on and off all day, every day for the last week and a half. Try not to worry!

  • I have been feeling the same thing...mine more like pressure than cramps. Called the doctor today and they said its very normal with the embryo attaching to the uterus and the uterus stretching...did you try and call your doctor?

  • I have them constantly too, just a dull achy cramp. Make sure you're staying hydrated.
  • I've had cramps as well and am trying not to worry. As long as their is no bleeding you should be fine. Reading all these other comments comforts me...I just get so paranoid - since this is my first. Try to not to worry and I will do the same! Congrats!!

  • I too have had cramps everyday for almost 2 weeks.  Sometimes they're mild and sometimes kinda strong.  From what I hear, this can be pretty normal at this stage- as long as there is no bleeding.

  • thanks, everyone, this is comforting.  I did ask my midwife what her thoughts were recently via email & I'm waiting for a reply (I'm living overseas until 1/2 way through the pregnancy).
  • Same as PP- as long as it's not severe (like you are crying and want to call your doctor) and there is not bleeding, should be fine. I don't remember these cramps from my first time either- but I asked my OB today at my appt and she said they were implantation cramps. Sortof a pulling/stretchy crampy feeling. Mine are kind of a constant state but surge up several times a day- sounds similar to yours maybe?

  • I just started getting some cramping today.  I understand that its pretty normal as long as its mild and not accompanied by bleeding.  It is probably the uterus stretching and making room for baby.  Mine is low in my abs and I've been having it on and off this afternoon

  • Just a follow-up.  My midwife wrote back and here's what she wrote about the cramps:

"The breast tenderness usually passes by the 8th week & the "cramping" you have experienced is most likely round ligament pain which will also pass soon. It has to do with the growing uterus.  It is probably what you had last night on the one side, it tends to be one side or the other because as the uterus grows it shifts sorta & gets kinda lopsided so sometimes one side will be higher than the other & it pulls more on one side than the other."

hope this will be a comfort to some!
