Pregnant after a Loss

Birth story, PIPs, and a thank you.

First off, thank you ladies for being such a great support during my TTC journey and throughout my pregnancy. I love you girls so much! I apologize for being MIA lately. The laptop is in the basement and we don't have wireless. I'm getting up and down the stairs now.

And a HUGE thank you to the best labor buddy ever...Megan. I just got caught up on old posts and wanted to thank you for keeping everyone updated and also for cheering me on. Matt was reading me every text from you and it helped me focus and stay connected.

So here's my story...

I checked in for induction on 7/6 at 7:30pm. I had my first dose of Cytotek at 9pm. I was dialated a 4 by 5am and got my epi. Apparently, my body just needed a nudge so only 1 instead of 4 cytotek and no pitocen. They broke  my water at 7am and I was complete by noon.

They let me labor down about an hour until I had the urge to push. The pressure sensation from this is unbelievable and the epi does not work for this pain. I pushed for over 3.5 hours. Contractions were every 2-3 minutes apart and it feels soooo good to push through them. They wanted me to rest for some contractions, but that was awful. Baby needed to be rotated so they had me on all fours...OMG, this is terrible. Baby rotated but was not pushing through so OB gave us the option of suction or forceps. We went with suction for 4-5 pushes and it failed.

I went to c-section around 5:45pm. I was still having contractions even after they bollused my epi. I was so exhausted and scared, but DH works in anesthesia and knows the whole OR team so it was very reassuring that he was my rock. Baby was so far down that OB had a heck of a time getting him out. I kept hearing grunting and panting beyond the curtain. The cord was wrapped around baby 3 times and he was so quiet coming out.

Owen Matthew was born at 6:08pm on 7/7. He weighed 6lb 1oz and was 20 1/4 in long. Owen was tiny, but was perfect all the same. His gestation was 40+ weeks and he came straight to our room later. I was so terribly tired I could barely keep my eyes open to see him for the first time. I fell asleep holding him so the nursery had to give him his 1st & 2nd feedings.

We have been home for over one week now and I'm starting to figure this motherhood thing out. Owen is the single best thing I've ever done. Our TTC story ended with the most perfect little boy who came from a much needed break cycle. I am so in love...meet Owen...
