OMG you guys...no joke, Katie threw the BIGGEST temper tantrum this morning at 1:30 am. We've been having some issues with her sleeping through the night since she had the viral rash last week - she was waking up and staying up for 3+ hours at a time in the middle of the night. Well, now that the rash is pretty much cleared up, we decided it was time to put our foot down.
She was still feeling pretty crappy most of the weekend - mainly due to teething issues at this point (huge blister where one tooth is coming in). Well, she woke up at midnight crying. I attributed it to teething so I gave her Orajel nighttime solution and some more Tylenol and started to rock her. The next thing I knew, it was 12:50 am and I was still trying to get her back to bed. I put her down, she FREAKED out. I left for about 5 minutes, but she was literally screaming her head off. I went back in, rocked her for 15 minutes or so. Same thing happened when I left. DH then tried. Same thing happened.
When he came back into our room, he said that NOTHING was wrong with her. She's not acting sick, she has had the orajel, tylenol and I even fed her (probably a mistake)..it's like she just wants to play. So, we made the call and decided to let her cry it out for the first time. Holy hell. I have never seen such drama before in my life - from an 8-MONTH-OLD!!!!!
Literally throwing herself down on her mattress, thrashing around, screaming - I mean SCREAMING...and then would get real quiet and look around as though she was waiting for someone to walk into the room. When no one would come, she would sit up, make fists with both hands and start screaming/grunting as loud as she could.
It went on for 30 minutes before she passed out.
I felt terrible, but c'mon. She can sleep through the night just fine...and what's up with the drama?!?!?! We are totally in for it.

That's about when Max started throwing fits. And I was like you, YOU'RE ONLY 8 MONTHS OLD! I love the description of the fists, lol!
He absolutely hates getting his diaper changed so that's always an issue, oh and getting dressed too. We tried cio, and couldn't do it. I mean, we were an hour into it and he just wouldn't quit. So I ended up rocking him for about 45 min. until he finally fell asleep.
maybe her teething has her out of whack, I hope she's back on schedule soon!
I hear ya, lady! If Baer cries after we put him down at night, we have to just let him cry. If we go back in the room for even a second - to say good night, or rock him or anything - it makes it so much worse. He's pissed. He falls asleep so much faster if we just do it once. Saves us the drama. I really didn't want to do the cry it out thing, but any other way and we're in for trouble.
My biggest issue is temper tantrums when he gets in the car seat. He SCREAMS. Kicks his feet, clenches his teeth. Hates it. God help us all. He's only 7.5 months old.... how is this happening already?!
Courtney, I'm impressed you have already been doing the whole CIO thing! Looking back, I am disappointed we waited this long. She's great going down...and, realistically, the times she has woken up in the middle of the night, there have been legitimate reasons (sick or teething).
Have you already switched Baer to a bigger carseat? That may help...
Hope you guys are well!
