how the eff do you clean your sippy?

We're pretty careful about cleaning the sippy cups, but the other day I went to take a sip of her water to make sure I had put all the dang pieces together correctly, and the most awful spoiled milk taste came out.

Turns out, there was a clump of spoiled milk clogging one of the holes.

(FWIW, we have these cups, among others).

How the frick do you get into those teeny tiny little holes?

  • I usually let the tops soak in soapy water for a while.

  • We have those same ones, as well as others from Playtex.  I put the cup and the top on the top rack of the dishwasher and the valve in the dishwasher basket I had for her bottles.  I haven't had a problem with the small holes not getting cleaned out.

  • I send it through the dishwasher for that reason.
  • We started with those but now use the big playtex cups.  I have never had an issue.  I load them up in the dishwasher every night.  Right after her last cups of milk I take it apart and rinse the pieces out so the milk doesn't sit in it.  When I had my second daughter I used the same cups but had to hand wash dishes a lot.  I did the same and would rinse them right away then soak them in hot soapy water then just washed as normal.  Again, no issues.
  • I also let it sit in hot soapy water.  Sometimes I'll microwave water (or boil depending on if I have time) and then pour it through.

This exactly.  I'd go nuts washing all of those by hand, but they get cleaned and sterilized in the dishwasher.

  • When they start to smell funky I put them in the sink with hot water, soap and a little baking soda.  Seems to work.

  • I take them apart and rinse.  The top and bottom go on the top rack and the valve goes in the silverware basket.

    Exactly this.

  • I usually dishwash them, but if I'm handwashing I make sure the end of the valve is full of water, then I seal it with my thumb and press, squirting the soapy water out through the other end of the valve. I do it again when I'm rinsing, and have never had issues.
