I'm kind of a cheeseball, and I've always imagined telling people about my first pregnancy in fun ways. I really want to surprise both my mom and MIL in a big way.
My mom's birthday is in a week, and I'll be 6w2d, so I'm thinking of telling her then with a "grandma" card. But I'm not sure if we're okay with telling anyone that soon, so we'll have to see how we're doing in another week.
I'm clueless for MIL, and she's a super-planner-party person, so we need to do something fun. So please, share your unique ideas!
Re: Any fun stories about telling family/friends?
we'll be telling both sets of parents next week and we'll be almost 7 weeks. We figure that we're comfortable telling them as they are close and feel they would be hurt if we didn't. I can't wait to share with my mom -- I've had a hard time keeping it in!
With his parents, we are going to frame a picture of them and the grandkids (for a late anniversary gift) from our family photo shoot...then we'll give them a handful of different poses of them and the grandkids. And tell them that they can switch them out every now and then or find their favorite and put it in the frame. The last picture in the pile will be a picture of my husband and I holding our two positive pregnancy tests. So excited!
With my parents, after we fly into Seattle, we'll give them each a gift for their anniversary (two days prior). I'll wrap them exactly the same and tell them that they are the same thing (little white lie) and that they are to open them at the same time. My dad's gift are little newborn Seahawk booties (we are HUGE Seahawk fans) and my mom's gift is a frame that says "Just when you think you have it all in life, along comes a grandchild" and the picture of my hubby and I holding the positive tests will be in it. I wanted a cute "I love Grandma" frame for my mom since her birthday is the same day as their annivesary, but all the cute frames out there were "I love Nana." My mom will not be called Nana.
Your Grandma birthday card for your mom is a cute idea! You could even take it one step further and get a birthday cake and have "Happy Birthday Grandma" written on it! For your MIL, you could ask her if she'd help you plan a party and when she asks for who and you could say "For your new grandchild!"...or buy her a calendar for the coming year and have your baby's due date...hmmm...it's hard to come up with good ideas for someone else! I don't know if I helped or not.
For my friends, I'm planning on getting everyone together for a picture and saying "Everyone say 'Carrie's Pregnant!'"
Can't wait for that one.

Praying for peace in God's ultimate plan ~ "Be still and know that I am God." -Psalm 46:10
we told my 15 year old brother we were moving because someone was moving in with us...it took him forever to figure it out...he kept guessing and DH finally said "its no one from my family" and i said "its no one from our side of the family"...my brother goes "what are you gonna do? start your own family???" he was being sarcastic but when he realized thats what was going on the look on his face was priceless
for my mom i gave her a scrapbook with a picture of the digital test on the first page that said "were pregnant!"
and for my dad i wore a shirt that said belly with an arrow on it pointing to my belly
OMG, I just got goosebumps all over and almost teared up thinking about doing something like this to my three closest girlfriends. I'm so stealing this idea! I'm hoping to invite them all over for a dinner date in September and couldn't think of a good way. Another good line is, "Everyone say, 'I'm going to be an Aunt!'" because we're close enough that they'll be faux-aunts for sure. Amazing idea! I'm going to be a mess!
We're using an ultrasound picture. My family lives far apart, and we all have digital frames that are hooked up to a specific picture channel. that way when something happens to either my sister and her boyfriend, my hubby and me, or my parents, we upload the picture to the channel and it automatically appears on each person's frame.
I'll upload the US and see how long it takes them to notice when it appears...tee hee.
