Has anyone been required by your clinic to do this screening? We are and am wondering if this is the "norm". Working on figuring out if our insurance will cover it. Thanks!

honestly I cannot remember if it was required buy our clinic but we definitely did it. And our ins (BC/BS) covered it...I think they coded it as lab work tho.
We're not technically required but it's *strongly encouraged*. It's not a bad idea anyway. We ARE required to do infections disease testing out the butt lol.

haha! yeah...they took 6 things of blood yesterday...all sorts of infectious disease tests! I definitely want to do the CF testing...just shocked when they said it was required and we'd have to see if it's covered. It's apparently an expensive test if not covered. I'm guessing we'll be fine since our insurance has covered (and will cover) a lot more than we ever expected.

Yes and I am glad we did. I found out I am a carrier of CF. Thankfully, my DH is not, so there is no reason for concern. My insurance did cover it and covered some extra tests to make sure DH wasn't a carrier.
It was standard at our place. They actually had a part of the form where we list our heritages. Based on our answers, they also tested us for a whole bunch of other things ( apparently, certain backrounds are more likely to have/carry certain diseases)

We had just the CF screening done long before we started TTC. DH's cousin's child (DH's 2nd coursin?) has CF. Since we weren't sure where in the family it came from, both DH and SIL were tested and are both carriers. I am not a carrier so its not an issue. We would have been required to have the test based on family history - not sure if there was no family history.
Ours doesn't require it unless there is a family history.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

It was recommended by our RE, but we didn't have to.
Here is my feeling: REs make you do all kinds of test that "normal" couples don't have to do. MH and I are not doing anything extra (by choice) that does not have to be done by reg couples. Does that make sense? If my OB makes me do something someday, fine. But now we do what's required
My RE did not mention it but I did have this done through my OB/GYN when we first were planning TTC. However, various STD tests were required through my RE.

Mine didn't require yet, but "strongly encouraged" it. I didn't get it yet b/c my insurance couldn't give me a straight answer about covering it. Basically they told me I would have to do it first and then "maybe" it would be reimbursed. Now I have new insurance, so I might call and check on it!
It wasn't even mentioned at my clinic. When I was pregnant with DD that is one of the tests they did in my 1st tri but I think they were screening her.
MH's best friend had CF. He passed away when he was 27. From my understanding he actually lived a long life.
