our home inspector came by....

The same one that did our inspection for the closing came by to update the wind mitigation report since we just installed hurricane shutters.  My mom was the one who met him b/c I had to go to work, but OMG I wish I could've been there.  The look on his face must've been priceless.  She said he was in utter disbelief and shock when he saw everything we've done to the house.  At first, he couldn't find it b/c he was looking for the old facade.  Then, he was in awe of all the improvements.  According to my mom, they both agreed that we were crazy for buying this place but now see that we both had vision and saw the potential.  LOL, MOMS!  She and my dad are architects and they're the ones who always encouraged us to get the shabbiest house in a good neighborhood and fix it up little by little, but I guess since we're their kids they thought we were getting in over our heads.  We still have a lot to go to fulfill our true vision and the potential we see for the house, but the rest will have to wait a couple of years since now we have a new focus ;)

  • Isn't that an awesome feeling?!  We too bought a nasty fixer-upper, and people that saw it before, can truly appreciate the after!  Glad you stuck to your guns and bought the house anyway.  : )

Don't forget to take before, during and after photos!  I have an album dedicated only to house renovations.  It is so cool to show people when the visit for the first time.  : )

  • What a great feeling!  We also bought a 1955 house with original kitchens and baths and jalousie windows! yuck lol...  We are remodeling little by little but it is so nice to work with an original house and not have to deal with a whole bunch of bad additions and fixes that were done by different owners throughout the years.
  • BTW...  would love to see some before and after pics!  Always looking for inspiration =)

ditto this.  Ours is a 1952 house, and our pest control guy, who has been with us from the beginning, always mentions how our house has changed.  One of our neighbors who has gorgeous landscaping even made a nice comment to us today as we were out trimming plants.  That was sweet.

    Congrats!!
