I hate to complain, and really I have been super lucky in terms of m/s and other things this pregnancy...but WTH with the headaches now? They have only been here for maybe two weeks or so, but it is EVERY day and now it is at a point where they wake me up in the middle of the night. I asked my doctor and he said tylenol and caffeine are fine, but I don't think they help much. I haven't told him about the waking up in the night thing yet because it has only happened maybe three times so far...the past three nights. I just saw him Monday.
I really don't know if there is some sort of Rx to take for headaches, but I don't really want to take anything either. Is there some kind of natural remedy? I think I notice the headaches more after eating and in my sleep. I keep well hydrated, so it isn't that. Maybe I am over tired? I guess I shouldn't complain, but I can't even get work done with this pounding headache!
Re: I really can't imagine these headaches are normal
Just lurking from IF. My sister had pregnancy headaches and would get a lot of massages, she said that helped her tremendously. Good luck.
acu and just a touch of caffeine have really helped my headaches. Whenever I feel one coming on, I usually just have a cup of tea, put a cold washcloth on my forehead, and lately that helps.
I know tylenol is safe, but I've really been trying to not take it if I don't have to.
I hope you feel better.
"Smudge's Story - How to Grow a Dandelion" will return soon!
The Dandelion Archive
"If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn."
I've had a lot of hormonal side effects (RLS, leg cramps, weird stuff) helped with some calcium supplements. I imagine your headaches are hormonal, so it might be worth a shot.
In theory, you can take vicodin while PG. I had it Rx for me for migraines last PG, but didn't end up needing it. I guess they have a long history of PG data for narcotics, though I think it's category C (where benefits outweigh risks.)
I had really bad headaches around this time too.
For me I drank a little bit of caffeine every day to keep them away and if that didn't help, I took Tylenol. You could always try acu if it gets really bad. Hang in there, they will get better.
I am sorry you are feeling so yucky. I can totall sympatize with how you are feeling. I have been plagued by headaches all through out my IVF cycles and this pregnancy. I probably get at least one headache a week that's dull and some weeks they are full blown migranes. They did sort of taper off in the second tri but have come back full force in my third..ALOT of it has to do with hormone changes and fluctuation...
Some of the things that have helped me are...Excedrine tension, just 1 (500 mg) and at night I have been using Bengay on my neck to help release the tension in my muscles and neck. If you are showering/bathing (which helps me relax) before bed make sure your hair isn't wet when going to bed. A cold wet head doesn't help at all..
Have you tried any accupuncture/prenatal message. I have done both when my migranes were at the peak and it really helped. I know that Topamax is also ok in pregnancy but I would CALL your OB before taking something like that..
HOpe you get some relief soon. Headaches really suck.
I can totally relate. My headaches at night are so friggin scary. I feel like my head is going to explode. During my appt yesterday I asked my doc if this was normal and she said unfortunately it is and I will have to deal until about week 18. She said something about increased volumes of blood and fluids- especially with twins- are causing a flooding of the blood vessels. Not quite sure how that worked, I was just disappointed about hearing that I have at least one more month of these things.
Tylenol works okay during the day. Does not get rid of them completely at night though. Sorry I dont have any more recs. Hang in there!!
