Pregnant after IF

Tell me about Zofran

Ok, I admit to being one of those girls who couldn't wait for symptoms to start a few weeks ago.  Totally eating my words now.

I'm at the point of no longer keeping food down, only ginger ale.  I put in a call to my IVF nurse (still haven't graduated from RE) for some help.  I'm assuming she'll call in some Zofran.  I've heard about the constipation, but seriously, I don't see how that can get much worse than it already is.  Any other side effects I should know of?  Does it really help, like will I feel better immediately?  Thanks, ladies!

Re: Tell me about Zofran

  • It was a lifesaver for me.  I couldn't keep anything down for 3 months. Zofran almost made me feel like a normal person except I was still very exhausted. The only problem I had was that it was so expensive that my insurance only let me have 20 pills a month.

  • I didn't think about whether insurance would cover it.  I had an ordeal with them with IF, but thankfully they've really stepped up since becoming pregnant.

  • Zofran was a miracle for me.  I was on it for maybe 12 weeks.  I started with one pill every 8 hours and weaned myself off (and back on, and back off again and again!).  Only side effect was constipation which really I think has prepared me well for pushing out a child. LOL.  I remedied that with LOTS of water and colace (the non-laxative one) and a glass of metamucil before bed.  See if you can get the generic.  It only cost me $7 (with my insurance) and there wasn't any limit.

It helped me to stop puking as much, but i still got sick.  The constipation can be rough, but for me it was worth it.  Some get headaches, i did not have that.

  • Zofran has helped me a lot. I'm still taking it (as I'm still getting sick), but I only do so when I absolutlely need to and I usually break the pills in half. The constipation has been bad. I had constipation issues to begin with, but it's definitely worse. Make sure you drink as much water as possible to lessen the constipation and ward off the headaches. My insurance covers the zofran so it's pretty inexpensive for me.

GL! Hope you feel better soon!

  • Agreed with PPs. I also still got queasy, but it was a thousand times better than if I had not taken any. Good luck. Hope you start to feel better soon.
