want some opinions

when we were pregnant with my now 2 year old, our boys name choice was Simon. we had a girl instead

in february, I went out to dinner with a few friends- 2 of us wanted another and one was currently pregnant. my friend "J" told me that she was hoping to use Jillian or Aaron. I told her I was hoping to use Simon or Fiona.  a few weeks later she texted me and told me she was indeed pregnant....and using Jillian or Simon. I was so upset, but of course nothing I could do. She found out she is definitely having a boy..Simon

Now we are pregnant again and now I don't know if I should suck it up and look like the copy cat if we use Simon, or if we should try to find something else....which we are having a hard time doing

this friend is in my playgroup so we talk online daily on a message board of about 25 moms...but only see each other in person maybe once a month or every other month

I'd say use Simon. If that is the name you really want, don't let someone else's use of it change your mind.

I would still use the name if you want to.  It doesn't make you a copy cat if you have always liked the name.  Also, you may regret not using if you were to end up not even being a part of this persons life in the future.

I would keep Simon, or at least not rule it out yet. As pp mentioned, you don't really know if or how big a role she'll continue to have in your life.

As you get nearer to the end of your pregnancy, you can always re-evaluate then if you think it's necessary. But I wouldn't rule it out.

Nothing stopping you from using it too.  If it's the one you truly love, use it.

She knew you liked the name before she decided to use it, especially since she "got it" from you. So, there's no harm-no foul in your decision to still use it.

Use it! Theres nothing wrong with your using the same name., You love it, and she doesn't own the name

That's horrible! Sounds like you have definitely had your heart set on this name, so don't rule it out yet! Worst case, if you both end up choosing the name and the children are close in age, they'll just be called by first and middle names when they are together.

Use it! She knows you didn't copycat, since she got it from you. If you really love it, use it. She probably won't be in your life forever, and if she is then she is the kind of person who won't care if your children have the same name Simon is fantastic.
