I found out on Tuesday that I have bilateral cysts on my ovaries that need to be surgically removed. My sister had one removed last year, but from what she told me and what my doctor told me it sounds as though my procedure will be different. My doctor is confident that he can save my ovaries, but I think I should look into having eggs frozen just in case. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also while in surgery I'm planning on getting a copper IUD put in, feedback on those would be great too. I wasn't worried about the surgery to much until I spoke with mom and sister and they are starting to stress me out.
Re: I wouldn't normally share this but I have some questions.
I'm not much help with the questions about surgery, etc. but I have had Paraguard for about a year and a half and LOVED it (just recently had it removed to try for #3.)
I hated being on hormonal birth control and the Paraguard has so much going for it. It lasts ten years so you can just forget about it and it's as effective as tubal ligation. Over the long run, it's also very inexpensive compared to pills, etc. The one downside is that it can cause heavier cramping/periods but I did not experience that. And honestly, I'd put up with taking some Advil and going through some extra tampons over the insanity of hormones and the possibility of an unexpected pregnancy ANY day.
Good luck - I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
I would def. talk to your doctor about it. I have a friend that lost a tube due to a ruptured ovarian cyst and I have no idea how common that is. I do know that it took them over 2 years to get pg and I can only assume that only having 1 ovary/fallopian tube was part of the problem.
I had the paraguard copper IUD about 7 years ago. I had very irregular/heavy periods on it but liked that it was effective and that I didn't have to take a pill or whatever every day. Now I have the Mirena and I like it much better. I wouldn't get an IUD though if I was planning on having kids in the next few years.
I hope things go well. I am sorry you have to go through this. I think it is best to ask your DR. about ths. I have a friend that had her one ovary removed because of complications with a cyst and she had twins and a single after the procedure (from what I hear multiples are common when you only have one ovary left. GL and keep us posted.
I had a cyst that was too big and complex to remove without removing my whole ovary. It was a long surgery but the recovery was smooth sailing for me.
I also have Paraguard; just got it 6 weeks ago. My first period was painless but was really heavy. I hope I get back to normal but I'd take a heavy or long period over the worry of another pregnancy.
Good luck! I hope things go well for you.
Oh my! Thank goodness we decided we were done after I had my ovary removed.
ETA: Sorry, I forgot to add that my SIL had a cyst removed and they were able to save her ovary. Her surgery was easy and short but her recovery was really hard. So, it's definitely best to talk to your doctor about it all.
