I wanted to keep him rear facing as long as possible. DH wasn't on board with me and wanted to turn him around on his birthday. We had comprimsed at turning him around come fall when he was 16-17 months. Well, it happened at 14 months instead. My MIL had put him in her car forward facing (without my knowledge) and drove around with him this way for several days. (She was watching him this last week when I went to work and DH wasn't home yet). I found out and was not happy but now he won't go rear facing anymore. He screams and he cries and makes even the shortest drives torture. So I was forced to turn him forward facing which instantly made him happy. He is old enough and over the weight limit for it and I was planning on doing it in a few months anyway but I hate that the decision was taken away from me. Trust me, MIL got an ear full from DH and myself about it.
Re: We had to turn H's carseat around and I am not thrilled
I really detest your MIL...
That would make me so mad!! I've considered turning DD because she hates riding in the car... but I've resigned myself to listen to her screaming until 18 months and reevaluate the situation then.
Why do other people think that they know what's best for our own children?!
I'm sorry, that would've made me mad too.
On the flip side, I can't wait to turn Ella around. It's hot for her in the summer cause there aren't any vents that face her and it's getting really hard for me to put her in the car seat cause I'm never feeling well.
I worried my MIL would do this. She asked the other day if we weren't "allowed" to turn it around and I stated that it was safer this way and I'd like to keep her that way until she seems uncomfortable (which honestly won't be too long-- she is 31.5 inches so she has to sit with her legs bent as it is-- but so far she deals ok).
So MIL said she would wait to get the ok from me to turn hers-- I was shocked. I'm really trying to make it until our beach vacation in September...we'll see.
Sorry she did that to you.
This! I know you've had a lot of issues w/ her (as have I w/ mine). Sorry you have to deal w/ her. That blows.
Yeah I was PISSED when I found out and she felt my wrath. I have lots of issues with her so I don't know why it surprised me. According to her we do everything wrong because it isn't the way "she did it".
I rigged a battery operated stroller fan to blow on O and it's made a huge difference. This isn't the exact one we have, but it looks pretty similar.
Sorry, MrsO - that would have me LIVID.
