The stupid, effing dog (who is working my last nerve these last two days) just drank a bunch of water out of the mop bucket.
Dirty water full of cleaner. It's Mrs.Meyers, which is supposed to be safe for pets (which is why I the sap shell out big bucks for it instead of just swiffering like a normal person), but I doubt they are supposed to DRINK IT.
I have no idea how much she drank, she's usually scared of the mop and won't come near me, so I wasn't looking.
Shouldn't instincts be kicking in here? Self preservation? If natural selection were at play here, I'm not sure the Doodle would make it to the next evolutionary phase.
She'll be okay, right? I don't need to make her throw up or anything?
Re: Furmama freak out, tell me the Doodle will be fine.
Is there a 800# on the bottle?
ETA: I'd say call the vet, but my vet doesn't give any advice over the phone.... Not sure if yours is the same.
Hmm. I'm sure she'll be fine, but I might call your vet just to see what they say. That's what I'd do anyway.
Silly Scout!
As soon as I hit post it was like "Allison, call the vet. Duh."
The vet asked if she got sick or was acting weird (no to both) so I have to just keep on eye on her. If she starts drinking a ton for no reason, I have to take her to the emergency pet hospital nearby, but the vet said that was pretty unlikely.
Ugh. Doodles.
feel better?
But mom, hers was just firsty!!!

My cocker spaniel growing up did too, and she lived to be 17. So in other words....calm the hell down?
I'm glad you called the vet. Better safe than sorry! Mrs. Meyers doesn't have any caustic ingredients in it, so she'll probably be fine. She'll feel like a$$, but she'll be OK.
If it were one of my dogs, though, I'd induce vomiting. Syringe a shot glass full of hydrogen peroxide down their gullet and stand back!

I can't say anything about dogs, but in children Poisindex says for Mrs. Meyers to give 4oz water to dilute, spontaneous vomiting may happen (and if it doesn't happen means ingestion likely not significant), observe for any signs of esophageal/stomach irritation (not sure what those would be in Doodle, sorry). It says ingestion is "not generally serious."
also about them avoiding things that are poisonous, for the most part they do (except sweetened things like chocolate or antifreeze) My dogs loooooooove eating plants, leaves, flowers, acorns, etc. The only one they don't touch is oleander. I was worried about it in the yard, but they avoid it. They also don't like the poisonous foods - onions, grapes, avocado (again chocolate is the exception, but I somehow doubt they'd want straight cocoa so maybe it's not an excepetion)
ok enough rambling anecdote.
Thank you, that is actually really good info. I use all their products for cleaning, so this is good to know.
She's napping next to me, but she seems to be snoring/breathing as usual. She didn't even gag or anything after I yelled at her to leave it, so I am guessing she didn't drink that much. Stupid dog.
2 years of TTC, Seeing RE Feb 09, 2 medicated TI cycles - BFNs, 3 medicated IUIs - BFNs, back to medicated TI cycles until IVF approval, IVF approved in March 2010. BFP on last medicated TI cycle.
I have noticed that "Safe for Pets" really means, "You'll have to keep bellowing at the damn dog while you clean because it's made of stuff they want to drink." Anything lemon or coconut or whatever oil, the Wonder Dane spends her whole day trying to get to. **sigh**
I hope Miss Scout knows how lucky she is to have a good mama!

Sorry I'm coming to this so late!
Whenever I get calls about some of the weirder things dogs have eaten & am not sure what it could do, I recommend people call the ASPCA's Poison Control Hotline. There IS a fee, but their service is INVALUABLE. (Plus they give you a case number so your vet or the ER vet can follow-up & get help for no additional charge.)
Since you have a Doodle, you may want to keep this info handy.
Hope Scout's doing okay, & GL!!!

Animal Poison Control Center
We are your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call (888) 426-4435. A $65 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card.
You're telling me this is not going to be a one time occurance, aren't you.
Thank you, I just bookmarked this so I have the info. For the inevitable future :::facepalm:::
I'm actually a big believer in Murphy's Law...now that you have the Poison Control Hotline info. bookmarked, you'll never, ever need it again!
P.S. In vet school, we actually had to take turns shadowing shifts at the Poison Control Hotline for our Toxicology class because it was in the same town. I listened in on a call where 2 Labs almost killed themselves by eating a pack of gum each (warning: xylitol flavoring in gum can cause liver failure...even if they only eat a few small pieces!). So glad to have them around!!!
P.P.S. Hope Scout's feeling better this morning!
