stupid insurance!

CryingI know I should be grateful that I have insurance, and for the most part it's pretty good. However, I have no infertility coverage. I just got a call from my RE's office, and they informed me that it will be $2,000 to have the HSG done in their office, and $800 to have it done at another office. I don't know what to do. Part of me wants to try a cycle without it, and see what happens and then go from there. DH and I are both teachers and just put a bunch of money into the house and are cutting corners as it is. However, I know it's important and I should just do it. What do you think? Skip and it and wait or just do it?

Add this to the fact that I'm overwhelmed with taking Clomid and hung around babies and moms all morning...Crying

I think some chocolate is in order!

Re: stupid insurance!

  • Oh that sucks :( Maybe you can ask around to a few more places and get prices? Do they offer any kind of discount. Im pretty sure if this counts as out of network you can submit your receipt and they will reimburse you a percentage? I sure hope it works out for you. I would try another cycle without it and then figure out the money situation.

    GL and mmmmm chocolate :)

  • That sucks.  I do not think it is right that some insurances do not cover IF issues.  Chocolate will make you feel better

  • I'm sorry about the insurance issues.  The HSG is super important.  There is really no reason to take meds if you have blocked tubes.  I have heard of some ladies getting procedures OK'd through their GYN or GP and insurance will cover it.  Maybe look into it with other providers and see what you can find.

    GL!

  • Thanks for the advice! We're going to talk about it tonight and then figure something out.

  • Wow! I am suprised it's not covered, because it's a procedure and no IF treatments. Insurance really sucks!

By the way, my DH and I are both teachers too. It has been nice to have the summer off for all of these treatments and appoitnments, but I am dreading going back to school if I am not pregnant.

No kidding! I hate the back to school time when everyone else shows up pregnant!

  • Oh wow, that sucks!  They don't even cover diagnostics for you?

Well, I wouldn't waste a Clomid cycle without one - I'd rather skip a cycle than do that.  I would check with some other doctors for better prices.

It makes me so angry that not everyone has IF coverage!

Apparently this isn't considered diagnostic. If that isn't, then what is? Just blood work?

But don't worry...they fully cover Viagra:)
