102.5 Fever (last night) and Rash

I took Katie into the ped on Monday b/c her daycare called and said she had a 101.5 fever.  I was concerned that she was getting an ear infection b/c we had just flown the weekend before and I saw her pulling on one ear quite a bit over the weekend. Well, they said that there was a little fluid in both ears, but she was also cutting 2 teeth up top (that I couldn't see), so they diagnosed it as teething.  I had to keep her home yesterday b/c of the 24-hour fever rule.

Well, this morning at 2 am, she woke up crying.  I went into her room and she was blazing hot.  102.5.  Gave her some Tylenol and gradually it went down - by 3 am, it was down to 101.5 and then finally around 5 am, it broke.

During all this, I noticed she also has a rash all over her body - primarily her belly, but I've seen it on her legs and face...not so much her arms or hands or feet though.

I know she will be fine - obviously some form of a virus, but OMG she is so pitiful-looking at times.  This cry that she has started doing when she doesn't feel well is enough to rip your heart out.

  • Roseola.  She will prob continue to improve and the rash will go away.

  • Oh no!  I hope she didn't get the hand, foot, mouth too!  That is pretty much what Caroline looks like now - rash on her belly, face, arms, legs and bottom.  I swear it looks like the measles.  I hope she feels better soon!

  • Her pediatrician said it is just a viral rash - not Roseola and not Hand/Foot/Mouth.  The director at her daycare told me on Monday that something like this was going around, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.  She said it will get worse before it gets better and she may look "funny" by the end of the week, but that it should be better by Friday...at least the fever should be!

Just hoping she sleeps tonight.  I gave her Motrin instead of Tylenol and am hoping for a longer-lasting effect!
