Help diagnose my DD please (Long sorry)

I am trying not to over react but I was hoping that you can all help me.  My DD has been not herself lately.  She is usually a good eater but today has refused most food, wanting only milk or water, with a few snacks in between.  The eating I was not too worried about, because she has been drooling, so I assumed she was teething.  But at nap time today, after a 2 hour nap, which is unusually long for her, she woke up screaming bloody murder.  She was almost scared, wanting to be held then pushing me away.  She screamed for almost 30 minutes and nothing I could do would help.  I changed her diaper, tried to give her a snack (since she wouldn't eat lunch), tried to give her a drink.  Nothing worked.  I finally had to have her dad come home and help me until she just stopped.  She did eat some dinner but not like usual.  She also went to bed fine, earlier than normal but she continued to get her paci and blanket and laying down on the floor since she got up from her nap, so I assumed she was tired, which she apparently was.  Should I be worried and has anyone else been through anything like this?  Any help is greatly appreciated!! TIA!

  • Did you take her temp? She may just be coming down with something. Has she had any issues with recurring ear infections? How's her urine (does it smell stronger than usual)?

  • sounds like teething to me. for some unknown reason, my ds used to wake from his naps  crying all the time - no idea why but he grew out of it eventually. it was very odd.  it sounds like teething with your LO though. the no eating, just drinking thing is what my LOs did/do. try some motrin also, is an ear infection possible? maybe the crying is due to that?
  • Does she have a fever? Definitely sounds like something doesn't feel good. Maybe you'll find out tomorrow based on whatever symptoms she has in the morning. It COULD be teething--maybe her teeth hurt and that's what woke her up? If she gets a high fever, maybe hand-foot-mouth?? That can lead to blisters in the mouth which are uncomfortable, especially when eating.

  • Ds was like this when he hit teething and a growth spurt at once. I thought he was getting sick. It turned out that he was extremely tired and hungry all of the time, but couldn't sleep or eat. It makes for a very inconsolable child.
  • Sounds like teething. Dd had a really hard time with molars and eye teeth. I suppose she could also have a viral infection of some sort. My best guess would be teething, and the molars are a whole other beast!

  • sounds like teeth and or ear infection.
  • Thank you all!! I did take her temp and it was normal when she was so upset.  She did have a suspected case of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease about a month ago, not getting the blisters on her hands or feet just her mouth, which put her in the hospital overnight for fluids but she had a high temp with that.  I am hoping it is teething, I am just going to worry all day tomorrow because I have to work and she is staying with her grandmother, who I know can handle it, but I will feel bad, if it happens again and I am not there for her.  Again, thanks for all the advice.  If it continues I plan to call her doctor!
  • When my son was getting molars he would wake up and scream like somebody was breaking his legs.  I couldn't believe that was just from teething, but it was.  It mostly happened when he was sleeping, I think because he didn't have any distractions.  We were on an Advil regiment for weeks.  Good luck :(
