I packed a couple of cute outfits for her just so that she wasn't wearing the plain hospital onesie when people came to visit and took pictures. I don't know how it is where you will be, but at St. Vincent's they were alway taking her mittens off citing choking hazards. We put plain onesies with the built in mittens under her outfits instead.
In my hospital bag for baby I've packed some onesies, blankets, socks, hat, and his going home outfit. I don't plan on changing his clothes at the hospital though, I'll probably leave him in the little shirts until we leave. I mainly packed extra in case of pictures, or if he has a really bad accident on the way home. We live about an hour away from the hospital, therefore I wanted to be prepared, with extra outfits, if he gets sick or has an explosion or anything on the way home. Like PP stated St. Vincents wouldn't allow mittens b/c of safety hazards, however I'm sure each hospital has there on policy.
Yeah, you really don't need much at all. Diapers, wipes, hairbrush, nasal syringe, blankets...all that stuff is provided. Maybe just a cute outfit for pics and for going home, a couple of nicer blankets , baby nail clippers...that's about it!
I agree w/ the baby nail clippers or file (we were scared to use the clippers at first) b/c their nails will sometimes be long and the hospital wouldn't do it for us. We also took a paci, some outfits, a hat, blanket, some socks.
I would make sure you have enough outfits for LO. Our hospital only puts them in a paper shirt... which is see-through and not really much of a shirt at all because it's taped in the back. I changed my DD into an actual gown the minute we got her back from the nursery the day she was born.

Re: What to pack for baby while at the hospital?
All I have packed for LO is a couple of gowns with the built in mittens, her going home outfit, and a few blankets.
On our tour, the nurse said all diapers, wipes, etc. were provided.
