Cries at night for no reason....

Lately G will be sleeping whether be a nap or during the night and all of a sudden start crying so loud....BUT she is still sleeping- eyes fully closed, and she cries at the top if her lungs for about 30 sec and then stops....

Dr said it could be gas, or night terrors....But what the heck could an 11 week old be having a night terror about? Just wondering if your LO's have ever done this. (DH wanted me to ask you ladies lol)...She did it twice last night in her sleep....so weird....just out of the blue, full on crying but yet she is still sleeping...

Re: Cries at night for no reason....

  • That is so sad.  K doesn't do this but I have heard of it before.  Those night terrors must be something awful!

  • I don't even like the way that sounds: night terrors.  Couldn't they come up with another name for it.  Poor, G!
  • Mr. S-man does the same thing. I looked it up in my Baby Book (my new found bible!) and it can be nightmares. Like "grown ups" babies tend to process everything that happened during the day in their dreams. S-man usually has "nightmares" after a day (or during one of his day time naps) when he developed new skills. Like past Thursday when he rolled over onto his belly for the first time, major development for a baby, so massive processing going on in his sleep.

For S. it usually helps if I just rub his back (since being able to roll to his side he only sleeps on his side) for a few secs, then he stops crying (more a scream than a cry in his case) and continues to sleep.

But there's nothing to worry about really.

    HTH!

  • yes A does this too, hate to think they are having nightmares, it's so sad.
  • Miss P used to do this. I'd just go in and soothe her and she'd usually be fine in a moment.
  • I just want to send a big ((((((squeeze!!!))))  Mari's done that a couple of times and I had no idea what it was either!
  • I usually just go in and rub her face or her back and she stops instantly, but it sure does scare the crap out of you!!!! My poor munchkin!!
  • Poor little girl!  Kellen hasn't done the full-blown crying yet, but rather just short little outbursts.  It's so sad!
  • First of all, I'm so sorry!  Rowen has had night terrors since he was little and they can be a completely awful experience.  His were the worst when he was around 2 and now he doesn't have them much anymore.  He did have them the other night and I sat in his room trying to rub his back or do anything to calm him down while he shoved at me and screamed.  Once he woke up he was SO clingy and ended up sleeping with me just to calm himself down.  The worst part is that you can't calm them down and really can't do anything about it.  Just be there for her and try to keep her calm.  Make sure you keep up the night time ritual of getting her ready for bed because that can be very reasurring for them.  Hopefully she will grow out of it soon!

  • B does this.  It stopped for a while after she started on her reflux meds, then started up again lately.
