It turns out I have an infection in the root of a tooth that previously has had a root canal. There are two possible outcomes: 1) apicoectomy, which is where they cut through the gum line and possibly some jaw bone since it is a lower molar tooth, remove the infection and stitch it back up (don't google image search it... it terrified me!) or 2) the root of the tooth is broken and the tooth will have to be extracted in which case I'll need an implant. We do not have the money for this right now. Not at all. We are still paying off the 3 root canals I had to have last Fall after a round of serious infections. I just don't know what we're going to do

I am so sorry you're dealing with this.
I am so, so sorry hon. I went through this same thing three months before our wedding. I ended up having my front tooth pulled out and now I have an implant. Let me know if you have any questions about the procedures.
