My neighbor died last week. He left behind two sons, ages 2 & 10. He has a chronic illness that COULD be managed but he didn't take care of himself or go to the dr. Now two little boys will grow up without a dad and his widow is trying to hold herself together...and isn't doing the best job. Our neighborhood is really kicking in to help because the only family she has is her dad and he is moving to Isreal next week.
I know Harry isn't alone. My dad & dh are both diabetics and I swear it's like talking to a brick wall sometimes.
Gah. Why? Is it genetic?
Re: Why do guys not go to drs/take care of themselves?
This probably falls into the "boys = stupid" category.
Brandon had to have a full physical for the academy a few weeks ago. He got his little packet full of results back and did he look at anything before he handed it to his boss? Nope. He can't tell me what his cholesterol was, doesn't know his blood sugar, can't remember his BP reading, etc. He remembers that A) he is not color blind
his hearing is perfect (I think he paid the dude to say this lol - j/k) and C) he does not have TB. That's it.
That is so very sad about your neighbor. I wish that boys would realize the impact their health has on others. You'd think that protective instinct would kick in at some point, but it's like they think they're invincible.
I'll keep his family in my T&Ps.
