Homemade laundry detergent

How long is it good for? I was recommended the Duggars recipe they have on their website and it is enough to fill a 5 gallon pail...we use maybe half a gallon per month

Not sure...we've always gone through it pretty fast.  I don't know about the recipe they use but I use the one from the EFFBlog.

I use a variation of the recipe above. Since it's powdered I don't see why it would go bad. The liquid kind is less shelf stable.
