D.C. Area Babies

Metro/National Aquarium

How annoying is it to take a baby on the Metro trains?  We would have DS in the BOB and go from Vienna to Metro center (or whatever is closest to NA).

And....How is the National Aquariaum?  DS loves to look at the fish when we go to PetsMart...we figured it would be nice and cool.

Re: Metro/National Aquarium

  • It's not annoying at all.  We've been Metroing into the city with DS since he was 3 months old.  Just bring some entertainment and hunt down the elevators since you'll be using the stroller.   I'm almost certain that the closest stop is Federal Triangle, but I could be mistaken.

I haven't been to the National Aquarium, but I've heard that it's kind of disappointing.  Luckily, it isn't all that far to walk to the Natural History and American History museums from there if you find yourself with extra time.

  • I've only been to the Baltimore Aquarium and I know they don't allow strollers inside.  You have to either bring your own carrier or you can rent one there.  A PIA in my opinion, especially since adult tix are $25 each.  So you may want to see if the Nat. Aquarium has the same policy re: strollers.

  • Provided it isn't oppressively hot on Sunday would the zoo just be easier?

  • The zoo would probably be better.  However, when we were there in April, there was alot of animal exhibits closed for renovations or something.  It was kind of boring.  But I'm sure someone else here has been more recently.
  • The National Aquarium isn't that great and it actually is usually not that cool inside.  Its really small and the tickets are expensive for how short you are there.
  • Kids Farm at the zoo is perfect for the little ones.  Also, I've heard the NA is lame.
