If you liked the name Aubrey...

Would you nix it if your husband pronounced it "All-brey?"  I know this is silly, but he seems to really enunciate "All" and it drives me crazy.

I also nixed Charlotte Ann because whenever we consider a name he says it like he's pretending ot call for the child by his/her first and middle name, and when he was doing that it kept sounding to me like he was saying "Charla Dan."

Okay, carry on.

  • Yes, that would drive me nuts. DH mispronounces names sometimes and no matter how many times I correct him, he keeps doing it and it drives me crazy. We tossed out a few names with Leah because every time I mentioned a certain name, he'd mispronounce it. Grrr.

  • That would drive me nuts. BUT, I'm thinking that if I liked the name enough, it probably wouldn't deter me from using it. Then again, every time he said the name, it would probably drive your crazy EVERY time. So, I guess it depends on how much you like the name!

  • My DH misspells the names we pick and that drives me CRAZY. He does this with our dog now, where he has to call me to ask how to spell Isabelle. And I can't help but thinking that for the next 20 plus years he's going to be misspelling our kids names. That or I'm going to have to name our kids three letter names like Bob. Grr.

  • I absolutely nixed more than one name because of how DH pronounced them. You have to be able to live with his pronunciation for eternity.

  • Ditch the name now.  If my FIL calls my daughter "Caro-LYNN" one more time, I'm going to go crazy.  I keep explaining to him that it's Caro-Line.  If we wanted her to be named Carolyn, we would have spelled it that way. I never thought my daughter's name would be a difficult one to pronounce for people....especially her own grandfather.  Argh!

  • Yep, I agree with everyone else, ditch it.  It will confuse daughter too.  That would drive me insane.

    this..definitely.

  • If it was something that absolutely could not be resolved, I would have to nix it...but I would try to get him to pronounce it the right way before I would nix it; Especially if I really liked the name....which I do:)

  • My daughter was supposed to be Caroline, but my Mother-in-law and my father kept saying Carolyn, which I didn't like. We decided to name her Audrey and use Caroline as her middle name.
  • YES, that would drive me nuts and no I would not use a name that he consistently mispronounces.

OK, now I'm freaking out and going to have to have DH pronounce every name on our list! lol I normally say it and then he says yes or no.

  • I would say yes, nix it. Otherwise you'll have to listen to DH say All-brey for.ev.er. That would make me crazy!
  • Yep, I'd ditch it too.  I thought we picked a pretty safe name, we didn't want something too hard to spell or pronounce, yet both FIL and SFIL call her "Brooks", no matter how many times I've corrected them.  Never saw that one coming.

Totally not the same name at all, lol. Wow. We get the "Laya" pronunciation from family, still. It drives me crazy.
