XP: talk to me about fetal dopplers

DH & I are interested in getting a fetal doppler.  Which brands do you all recommend?  What are your thoughts on renting versus buying?  We want to get a good one but don't want to spend a fortune.  I'm about 10.5 weeks-is this a good time to get one?

I purchased one off CraigsList for about $70.  I think I was able to find the h/b on a regular basis by about 13-14 weeks.  I was a little think around the middle though.....

With my first pregnancy I rented mine from Babybeat.com.  It isnt too expensive and nice for peace of mind.  I am debating on whether I should get one again this time.  I'm not as anxious as I was last time so I dont think I "need" it like I did but it is still fun to play with!  I think I heard it around 10 weeks the first time.

I bought a sonotrax B from amazon for ~ $75 w/ 2 things of gel. I was able to find the heartbeat at 13 weeks (when I first tried it).

For me it was so worth it for my peace of mind. The 2 months from my 12 wk u/s to feeling movement @ 20 wks would have driven me crazy if I hadn't been able to check on the baby when I got nervous.

i purchased one on amazon and it wasn't super high end, but did the job.  it was $69 or so.  I still use it every once in awhile.  It was hard to get a h/b that early, but I think I was able to pretty well by 14wks.  It was just harder to before that. 

i'd get one now.  I just bought one that looks like the ones they have inthe drs offices.
