A few CD questions... (wool, "inserts", "soakers", etc.)

First about wool... Can anyone tell me about wool diaper covers? What are the benefits to using them? Anyone have any brand recommendations? I've seen lots of talk about wool on diaperswappers but am not sure what to think about it... And can I ask a dumb question? DH breaks out when he touches wool--like wool sweaters or anything... so is that a reason why we should avoid wool covers? I've read somewhere, though, that the wool is different...

Now about the word "inserts" and "soakers"--I see them tossed around a lot... what type of diapers do you use them with?

TIA!

  • Wool covers are breathable. Despite being wool, they can be worn year round and provide a water-resistant alternative to PUL. There are also fleece soakers you can try.

I make my own, and have ordered a few upcycled soakers from Etsy sellers.

Your DH could have a reaction to the lanolin in the wool, or to commercially processed wool (I read up on this recently, the only reason I know). You may want to see if you can get covers in organic wool and see if it makes a difference. You could also go for the fleece option.

Soakers are another word for fleece or wool covers.

Inserts/doublers can be used with any diapers, really. You can use some against the baby's skin as an added layer, or you can use others inside pocket diapers for extra absorbency.
