Success after IF

how long is your toddler awake before eating?

We used to do Avery's bottle around 7 (she woke up anywhere between 6:30 and 7) and then breakfast around 8.

Now that we're dropping the bottle and she's not particularly interested in a sippy of milk when she gets up, I feel like I should be feeding her earlier.  But I don't want to race out of bed and have her eating within 10 minutes, kwim?

  • Elizabeth is still nursing (no more than 10 minues) around 6:45 when she wakes up and then she gets breakfast at daycare around 8:30.

But there were three days this week when she didn't want to nurse and didn't want a sippy or food after she woke up. So she didn't eat anything until 8:30. I worried about it, but she was fine!

  • My girls still get a morning bottle first thing after they wake up.  C might not need it that soon, but E is a witch until she gets her milk.

On weekdays, they get breakfast right afterwards because that's how our schedule works, but on weekends, it might be an hour later.  Who knows.

If I were dropping the morning bottle, I'd probably try to move breakfast up sooner.

My DDs get up around 7 and they generally have a sippy of milk then.  During the week, they have breakfast at daycare around 9, but on weekends, it kind of varies.  It depends on our plans for the day, but generally breakfast is probably around 8ish.  Every once and a while we'll skip the sippy cup and just do breakfast earlier.

  • Between 30 minutes to an hour.  By the time we get both up, change them, get them dressed, get downstairs, and get breakfast into their hands, it takes a lot of time.  They do fine with it.  And if they are particularly hungry, I give them their milk while I get breakfast ready.
  • We usually just follow DD's cues so it varies. This week she's wanted her milk as soon as she gets up and then breakfast right after. But until this week she was never ready to eat before she'd been up 20-30 minutes... who knows what next week will bring :)

  • He wakes up between 6:30 and 7 usually (except this morning when he woke up at 5:30 am...sheesh). Then we hang out in bed and watch yo gabs for a bit, then he plays in our room while i get ready, and usually we go downstairs and he has a sippy cup of milk and something to snack on a little before 8 on days he goes to school, then more to eat once at school around 9:30. On days we're home, he gets a big breakfast at 8 because he doesn't eat a morning snack since he's napping usually at the time that would be appropriate for one. So, usually up an hour to hour and a half before really eating, although he sometimes gets his sippy of milk earlier if he's fussy.

  • He nurses when he wakes up at about 7 (sometimes 7:30) and then we eat breakfast around 9.  It's his best meal of the day - maybe it's because he's really hungry?  I've thought 2 hours might be too long, but I don't want to mess with what's working.
