I'm a special snowflake. Looking back, I think I lost my mucus plug first but I'm not sure if it was that or just discharge. I was having contractions before the dr broke my water (but I had no clue they were contractions, just thought I was having back pain from work!)

I am kind of a SS - although I voted for being induced.
I lost my MP at 37 weeks, was induced at 38w2d due to fetal distress detected at NST and BPP, and had a C-Section after almost 14 hours of not dilating past a 4-5.
With DS#1.....I lost my MP on a Thursday. Water broke Friday night, and I had him Saturday morning (via c-section after pushing for 3 hours...)
With DS#2......I started to have intense contractions and then had him via repeat c-section that same day (my scheduled c-section was supposed to be 10 days later....)
Wow, this is really interesting! In our childbirth classes the instructor said that water breaks first in something like only 8% of pregnancies. Either I'm remembering this wrong or the ladies on this board are a huge statistical anomaly.

You are remembering correctly. It is less than 10% statisticly that have the first sign of labor be water breaking. I had my water break suddenly due to a procedure (external version).
With DD1 My water broke completely unexpectedly. It was a gross break with gushing etc. I had no warning.
With DD2 I lost my mucus plug, went into ptl, it grew back, lost it again, waited a few days and then contractions started at 3 mins apart. However the peri had to break my water right before she was delivered.

SS for me, too.
With Ava -- induced.
With twins -- water broke, then needed a c-section.
Special snowflake here too
