Has anyone ever tried a job coach? Any recs on who to go to and/or what services you think are beneficial? I have been googling and there is such a wide range of things offered. We can't afford to spend a ton but if this is worth it, we need to.
I love my DH dearly. He is a wonderful father and a good husband, but he has been really struggling to find some direction and a career path for years. He has been in school since he graduated from high school in 2001 and still does not have a career out of it. He has changed majors many times, taken semesters off, switched schools, tried online classes, and on and on. He is so unhappy and hates retail. He is working at Macy's for now but it's not management like he at least had at Target. He has zero other responsibilities other than straightening the store and checking people out and just has to stand there for hours. It is so unfulfilling not to mention super boring and pays crap. The other problem is that stupid Macy's said they would work with his school schedule when he was interviewing and now says that if he's fulltime he has to have a completely open schedule so they will not let him block out any nights or days so that he can take classes. He has been taking nursing classes but now can't take any this summer because of Macy's. He even got a great scholarship that will pay for all of his classes this year and now can't use it over the summer because of them. So he really needs to find something better while he is in school right now. I am trying to be supportive but I am honestly over all of this. This charade has gone on long enough. I just want him to find something decent for now and to focus on school and get on with it as fast as possible. This is starting to really hold us back from many of our goals both as a family and for myself. Thanks for listening and any advice you may have. I just feel like we are stuck in such a mess.
Re: Job Coach Question and Vent
I've never used a job coach so I can't help there, but what about an advisor or counselor at his school? they are free and should be able to guide him appropriately...

I hope you can find a job coach.
Has he read the book "What Color is Your Parachute?" It is a book about finding your strengths and weaknesses and what career paths might be good for him. If you don't want to buy it, check it out at the library.
