We're lucky (well in our case lucky b/c our families are pretty normal), we live within 5 miles of both our parents and siblings. We saw them pretty frequently before John was born, but we see them so much more now, I would say at least once a week if not more. John usually spends one night a month with each set of grandparents and other than that we go over for dinner, go for a swim, shopping with my mom and sister. I really like that John is comfortable with them and can recognize them so young. Although if I had a crazy family or crazy IL's I'm sure I wouldn't be so happy about it.
Re: How much does your LO see extended family?
Not all that often. My parents and sister and BIL live in PA, so about an hour away. We probably see them at least once a month but EC hasn't ever spent the night there. I think my mom has watched her 2-3 times without me being there.
My ILs live in Australia. But even with them being far away, my MIL has come over twice since EC was born, FIL once and we went there in May. So she's seen them 3 times but its for much longer amounts of time. My MIL has actually watched EC more then my mom has.
My mom is very weird and will whine about not seeing DD, but then makes little effort to see her. My mom rarely makes the inital effort to see her or us. There's also some tension w/ my sister (who lives w/ my parents) and me, so there's an additional layer of dysfunction. If there's nothing special going on. .. it could easily be 1-2 months w/ not seeing her.
DH's parents see her/us about once a month at least. If we haven't seen each other, they will call and ask to come over and visit or invite us over there.
My mom watches DD every Thursday and Friday and my dad comes over about 6 times a week to run our dog so she gets to see both of them pretty frequently.
She sees my inlaws about once a month.
Both sets of parents live OOT from us.
DS sees my mom the most frequently...like 2x a month. She is retired and my dad works crazy shifts at work, so she will often come to visit (and babysit) when he is working nights so she doesn't have to be alone all night and quiet all day when he is sleeping. My dad tries to see him once a month or so - when he has a few days off.
Less often for the ILs - like every 6 weeks+ - but when they come and visit, they always stay for a long time. Like they will be here tomorrow and will stay for a whole week, whereas my parents will come for a weekend or even just overnight for a baby fix. :P
Even though we live 4 hours away from both parents - it really only takes 4 hours to get to my parents, but there is always miserable traffic and delays to get to the ILs (Long Island).
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
My mom watches DD and my nephew full time and my dad works from home- so she sees my parents and her cousin everyday. She also sees my sister everyday when they pick up my nephew. We go to DH's dad and step-mom's house every Sunday for dinner, so she sees that set of grandparents, plus step-mom's parents live with them so she sees her great-grandparents, plus her aunt (DH's sister that still lives at home).
DH's brother and other sister live in NC, so she only sees them a few times a year. DH's mom and step-dad live on the eastern shore, but they usually take DD for a weekend every other month or so.
