So I've been doing some investigating and the prometrium they Rx'ed me is intended via the FDA to be taken ORALLY but they script'ed it vaginally.
So I know they can Rx it to you however they want but last time I was PG (successfully) I took 200 mg prometrium orally with ZERO side effects - I had zero indication of low progesterone, it was just the protocol my joke doc put everyone on and since I had no s/e I didn't even fight it.
This time I'm taking 100mg a day vaginally with MASSIVE side effects. When I don't take it I'm money. I feel great. When I take it, I can't drive I'm so tired, I'm puking constantly, I'm dizzy as all get out, my ability to funciton and take care of my daughter is impaired, etc.
I'm going in for an u/s tomorrow and will be notifying them of these disabling s/e but wondering if s/e are different orally vs vaginally or if this is just a "this PG" thing?
Thoughts?
Re: Oral Prometrium vaginally? And...s/e differences?
Our Thanksgiving Day baby 11/22/07
Pregnant with #2 with LPD, uterine polyp/hysteroscopy, DOR (AMH = 0.17), 2 c/ps
Our early Christmas present 12/9/10
I took 200mg orally, and I still spotted all thru the LP, and had huge fatigue, paranoid and anxiety problems, and bloat. I switched to vag, (both at night, although sometimes I do one am and the other pm, since it's a 12 hr half life on that med topically/mucously) and I stopped spotting, don't get my period until *I* stop the med... and have minimal side effects.
Not that I dispute how you feel - but are you SURE it's the prometrium? that's not a huge dose and those symptoms just seem extreme for a low dose like that? (granted you're taking more in that route, but still....)
prenats? new rx med? just the pregnancy itself?
talk to them for sure, no fun feeling like that!
