ISO diaper covers without PUL or chemicals

My DH and I have started experimenting with cloth diapers to see what works best with our baby.  I see a lot of the covers out there contain PUL and other chemicals that have been proven to be carcinogenic or have other negative effects.  Other than wool, I was wondering what other material or brands are a safe bet and don't contain harsh chemicals. Also, do fleece ones have these chemicals? TIA!

I hate to break it to you, but it's almost impossible to avoid chemicals in any sort of fabric. I work in the apparel industry in materials and you would be shocked the amount of processing fabrics go through. Really your only options would be organic un-dyed cotton, hemp, or bamboo. But honestly even if something is labelled as "organic" it is only referring to the growing stage of the cotton and doesn't mean that it hasn't gone through any chemical processing while being spun into yarn or treatment after knitting.

The good news is that any product imported (I can't speak for domestic production since that isn't my specialty) into the US must meet the standards for restricted substances.. this means there is regulation for how much chemical residue is found on your cloth diapers.  These restrictions are extremely strict for anything produced for children

Which chemicals are you trying to avoid?

Maybe you could find some handspun wool covers from someone that raised the animal and then made the covers.  I didn't have any other ideas on avoiding some kind of chemical.
