food allergy parents--poop/rash question--long

For the past two days, Charlotte has had very hard black poop and also has a fire red rash on her bum and I think milk (whole milk) is the culprit, but I'm not sure and wanted to ask those of you who have experience with this.

I first introduced it at 12 months, and she had the same issue with hard black poop and a red rash after bowel movements.  I continued to give it to her in small amounts (maybe just a couple ounces each day) thinking it might just take her system a week or so to get used to it, but for the most part we've mainly just been nursing.  At one point I had to stop giving it to her completely because of a stomach bug (at least I thought it was a stomach bug--but now in hindsight, maybe it was the milk?).  During the stomach bug ordeal, she also had a very minor rash but I honestly was thinking it was just something viral and I know HFM was going around at that time.  Since I had been giving her a little milk all along, I didn't think about that being the cause of it.  Anyway, throughout that I stopped milk and just nursed her and she got better.  Now that I've started it again and have tried upping the amount, she's been having a hard time with digestion and the diaper rash again.

Does this sound like a milk allergy or sensitivity at the least?  She has a weird sweet potato allergy that does the same thing to her (digestion issues and rash) and sometimes causes her to vomit, but other than that, we've had no other issues with other foods or even with other dairy products (cheese, yogurt, etc.).  Even though she hasn't broken out in hives or anything major, it seems weird to me that it's taking so long for her system to get used to milk.  It's been well over a month, with only a short break when she was sick.

  • It could be a reaction although with henry with soy and dairy both would send huge gas and poop explosions.  It is possible to have the opposite effect though.  I would bring it up to your pedi.  henry is on enriched Rice milk once a day now and I am still nursing.  Seems when he nurses we have no problems.
