Donating Frozen Embryos

We were looking over our consent and have to make a decision regarding what to do with the Embryos if something happens to either of us.  We'd like to donate them if anything were to happen-I know there is something that we can fill in, but do we have to contact the agency before hand?

That's very nice of you...I don't think you need to contact the agency beforehand - we just sign something and that's it.

We have to fill out paperwork at the beginning of each IVF.  At that point, we sign that we agree to donate our embryos if something happens to both of us.  I assume if something happened to the both of us and we had frozen embryos (like we are ever going to have frozen embryos) that the clinic would handle getting them to an embryo adoption agency.

Thanks ladies.  It was one of those "I have no clue" moments!

With our clinic--as long as we are both still alive we can donate them. If something were to happen to both of us, we had to appoint a guardian who would then  have control over what happened to them. We had to get a notarized letter to have on file in order to name my sister guardian in that instance.
