Photog Question

Just something I am wondering....

Why don't more photogs offer 'mini' sessions?  Make the session 20-30 minutes, no more driving time than 1/2 hour total for the photog, and offer a CD of a certain/minimum number of images for cheap-$200.

Obviously, you can't do this with a newborn session but you could totally do it for a 6 month old or family session or even engagement session.

Re: Photog Question

  • I wouldn't offer a mini session personally because I feel like sometimes it takes 20-30 minutes to get the subjects to relax and stop posing so some real pictures can be taken.  Seriously, I get maybe 5 pics out of those first 20 minutes that I'd want to use and the rest come out of the last hour.  So for creative purposes, I wouldn't want to do it.  But I also charge less than $200 for a full session including the disc.

  • My friend uses a photog who does mini sessions at least once a month, and she always seems to be 3 weeks to a month behind on editing.  She always has facebook status updates that are something like "Photos from Fathers day mini will not be ready before July so don't ask!"  So I guess it creates a workload that is hard to keep up with.  Those status updates are part of the reason I don't use that photog.
