Sad for DH (kind of long)

The week before Father's Day DH's g-ma fell and was admitted to the hospital.  This was not really a surprise because she has been really sick and didn't want to move her and g-pa into assisted living.  Luckily there was someone in the house with her and she got treatment very quickly.

The next day g-pa (who has some pretty severe dementia) had a minor heart attack (his 3rd or 4th).  He was admitted to the hospital.

FIL and MIL flew down on Father's Day weekend to see g-ma and g-pa.  Both were doing much better.  G-ma agreed they should move to assisted living.

A few days later g-pa passed away in his sleep.

MIL called yesterday.  She and FIL are flying down again because it now looks like g-ma isn't doing well.

G-ma has been treating bone cancer for a while and after the last round of chemo decided she didn't want to do any more treatments.  She has told us she is ready to go, especially since g-pa is now gone.  She just doesn't want to suffer anymore.

We all know she's ready to go but it's still really hard to see DH's family deal with all of this.

  • That is very sad. I am so sorry.

No matter how 'ready' someone is to go, it is still very hard to deal with losing a loved one.

  • That is really sad for your husband to lose both grandparents at the same time.  On a brighter note though it may be comforting to know that they are there together!
