So I had my first OB this morning and it was nothing short of hellish. Aside from the fact that the nurse was a moron, she did a pelvic exam where she pushed down to check my uterus and basically caused me to cry from pain.
This was followed by a conversation where I was told I would only have three ultrasounds for the rest of the pregnancy, one at 12 weeks (NT scan), one at 5 months and one at 7 months.
I think the nurse was deluded. I am going to wait until I meet with the OB in two weeks and find out what end is up. If it really is that infrequent I'll get an MFM on NMW to work in conjunction with the OB's office.
If you're at an OB how often are you being seen?
MoM's three ultrasounds is crazy right?!
Re: terrible 1st OB visit. Devastated. Advice needed...
thank you. I kind of figured. I'm hoping this nurse is just an idiot. Friends of ours that had a high-risk pg at this OB said that this will not be the case. I'm just seriously in shock right now.
I would call an MFM immediately. That is just ridiculous!
I'm so sorry your first OB appt was so bad. That nurse deserves a throatpunch.

Living After Losing
I am sorry, honey.
I think you will need to see an MFM, I really do. I wound up having 5 ultrasounds, but I know that is not the norm at my doctor, mine were due to certain circumstances. Three I think is the norm.
You certainly are capable of having an uneventful pregnancy, but I think is it is entirely appropriate for you to be monitored much more.
Does your RE have any suggestions for MFM's in your area?
3 is the norm at my office for a singleton, but with multiples I would think you should have more than that.
Sorry you had such a horrible first visit!
Weird stuff. Sorry you had a rough visit. ((hugs))
As a high-risk MoM to-be, I see the OB on a regular schedule but it's more escalated than for a singleton (so I switch to more frequent visits sooner). I saw my OB every 4 wks until about 24w, then I switched to every 2 until 32w. I now see her every week. Also, I have an u/s at every appt and I'm only allowed to see a partner, not an NP. If my OB gets called away for a delivery, they bring me back to see her right away or I get fit in with another dr.
My OB and MFM take a team approach with my care. They regularly communicate, share info, and make joint decisions on my care. My OB referred me and my first visit with the MFM was my NT scan/consult at 12w. I see them every 4 wks for growth scans. Starting at 32w, I also see them 2xs a week for NSTs.
As for next steps... I don't know. If you know someone who saw your dr and was handled differently you may want to hold tight until you talk to the OB. If you're feeling nervous, though, start checking around for other OBs. As I've recently learned how very quickly things can change with a pregnancy (esp. with twins), it's so important for you and your LOs to have hands-on, proactive care.
I'm sorry you had such a crappy appt.
4 is the norm @ my office with just a singleton. I know that there were more scheduled when we had the twins. Can you try to call the office back and speak with the actual doctor?
I want to punch that nurse right now for you.
Insane - i get one everytime I go, some of them are quick peeks and every four weeks the boys get growth scans.
You should def be seen by an MFM as well as an OB. My MFM happens to deliver as well, so it's a one stop shop for me.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
Three u/s = completely insane!
I am so sorry that you had a bad experience at your OB appointment hon. Honestly, if you still feel the same way after you meet the OB, I would find a new doctor. You have been through enough already. You need a doctor you can trust.
But keep in mind that your LOs are doing well, and that's what matters the most right now.
(((((hugs)))))
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2
After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
OMG, please don't title any post with "devastated" in it. You gave me a heart attack there for a minute!
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
Yeah no kidding Niki - I nearly threw up as I opened the post.
I am sorry that this happened to you. It sounds like the nurse was a moron. I would wait and speak to the OB. I am pretty sure that MoMs get more than 3 u/s for the rest of the pregnancy.
I am sorry you had such a craptastic day and appointment.
You need to get to a peri ASAP.
I am seen every two weeks, alternating cervical checks and growth u/s and even at the cervical checks we get to see the babies.
kim, news, kendrick, sorry for scaring you. I didn't even think about the implied meaning of my thread title! I was so frustrated by the time I got home from the appointment. It was the first time I've been angry all pregnancy.
Thanks EVERYONE for all of the tips and advice. I started looking for a NMW or MFM and I'm going to give the OB's office the benefit of the doubt for now and wait to see what happens at my 12 weeks appointment. If they think I'm really going to wait from week 12 to week 20 to get an update on the babies then I will add on a specialist. It just seems like too much of a risk.
