We just got our energy bill. I think I just fell out of my chair. GULP. Does NOT help I woke up freezing and my lovely DH had the thermostat set at 70. That is not acceptable to me, am I crazy?
T told me that people around the country set it according to how humid it is in their state. We have ours at 76, and it's perfect! We have DRY heat. lol
Then our upstairs bedroom (just one big room - cape code style house) gets so hot that we have a window unit in up there. I don't even care to look at the bill!
Ours is on 70 at night while we sleep (sometimes 68). I hate being hot when I sleep, and DH and DS put off heat like you wouldn't believe. I still wake up sweaty sometimes, sleeping with these two!
During the day I put it on 77, but it rarely makes it back up to 77 downstairs. It stays pretty cool.
(Actually, I'm looking at it right now. It's set on 78, but it's only 74 in here.)
Late afternoon I'll turn on the ceiling fan, and if really needed, will put it on 75 to fix dinner.
We live in a townhouse, whose windows face north and south. So we get NO direct sunlight inside. That keeps it pretty cool in here too.
ours is set to 76 during the day, 74 evenings/nights.
the trick i learned to to *slowly* move the thermostat up - like over a few months. It takes your body awhle to adjust to the change, but we use to keep our house around 68, and we are fine now. There are even days where I say I am cold and it's 75 in the house.
Our downstairs air is usually at 78 and upstairs at 76. It's hotter up there because we have a huge attic and although it's insulated still gets hot. Our power bill usually runs around $250.00 in the summer. Our big bills are in the winter time.

Ditto! Sometimes at night I put it on 75.
Our A/C is on an energy efficient setting. It only kicks on when it's 2 degrees above the temp. I'm not sure how much it saves, but it might be worth looking into.

Night we have it on 71 w/ceiling fans. (sometimes I'll leave it on 71 during the day & it's much nicer!)
