When to give hostess gifts?

Is it best to give hostess gifts on the same day of the shower? I was thinking about doing so either right before or right after my shower tonight. What do you think is best?

I always give them at the end of the shower as everything is breaking down.

I gave mine at the beginning of the shower - because at the end my hostess was truly overwhelmed by getting the extra food packed up.

I didn't have a way to "hide" gifts anyway, because my mother wanted me to take a gift from her, as well, so it was pretty obvious.

I think either works! I'll probably give mine before since it's at my house and they'll be there before everyone else setting up. So I can be a little more one on one with them when I do give the gifts.
