So we are switching our health insurance from DH's job to mine. My new job offers vision insurance and since I wear glasses and contacts (DH doesn't), I am definitely going to sign up for it.
Is there a benefit to adding Sydney to our vision insurance at this point in her life? The difference in cost is only a few dollars, so that's not a big deal, but I don't know if I should wait til she's a few years old to bother adding her. FWIW, I've been wearing glasses since 5th grade, so there's a chance she'll need them too. Although I hope she gets DH's perfect vision!!
Re: Add LO to vision insurance??
Our vision is part of our health insurance so we didn't need to worry about it. I would add her though just in case. You never know what could happen.
We never added B to our dental or prescription when he was a baby. I thought that I had but obviously not. We just added him and it kicks in on Thursday. I kept worrying that something would happen to his teeth and he wouldn't be covered.
We didn't add her to our dental or vision. Actually, neither of us have vision either.
I did see a baby this weekend - who was like ~ 9 months old w/ glasses, but I would imagine it would be pretty inexpensive to buy glasses for a baby.
Here is my understanding of it. If you get a vision plan that covers glasses, contacts and things of that sort as well as vision tests. If your DC had an eye problem then it would be covered under your medical insurance. We thought my DD had a lazy eye and around one we took her to a pediatric optomologist and it was covered under our health insurance. You just have to make sure that the optomologist is under your insurance plan, the same you would do if you were to see any type of Dr. Same goes with dental. Dental insurance covers cleanings, fillings etc. I remember years ago they found a spot on an xray on my jaw. I had to go to a specialist (can't remember what type of dentist now) which was covered under my medical insurance.
For us, we just put the twins on our dental insurance since they need to go any day now for a cleaning. At DD eye appt back they said she will need glasses at some point as a child. At this time we will just wait. I guess worse case we will have to fork out 100.00 or so if we don't have insurance in time to get DD her glasses.
