The name is Lorenzo. I am not Italian or Spanish so this name is on my list purely because I love it.
I was checking it out on BabyNamer and under the "Namesakes" it says:
Elopes with Jessica, Shylock''s daughter, in The Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare play in which he basically invented the name Jessica).
My name is Jessica. So the question is, would that be weird to name a future baby Lorenzo?
Re: Would this make you cross a name off your list? RE: Lorenzo
I highly doubt anyone would find the connection between Jessica and Lorenzo. So on that I think you are fine!
Lorenzo however is nms.
Ture. DH always says I overestimate the intelligence of the general population.
That's pretty obscure for most of the world. We're more likely to jump on pop culture references than any actually cultural . I think you're fine.
ETA: Now if you were Juliet, and you wanted to name your son Romeo, that might be another thing.

You found this on babynamer. this isn't something you just happened to know. So, in turn, I really doubt most of the population is going to know this either. Or care even if they did!

Again true. I knew both names were used by Shakespeare but not necessarily within in the same piece of literature.
For some reason, I think it would be weird if your husband were Lorenzo, and you named your daughter Jessica, since the name was created for the character Lorenzo.
But a Jessica naming her son Lorenzo would not be weird, because Lorenzo was already a name on its own beforehand.
This may sound silly, but it's just one opinion. And I do agree with PP's about no one ever thinking about this, unless they've researched the name Jessica (which people don't do much anymore, since it was so popular in the 80's)
