We decided tuesday that we were moving back to NoVa. My DH has to be there next week, so he's already gone. He'll be in a hotel until we find a house. I spent the last couple of days calling movers. I can't find anyone to pick up our stuff before I plan on leaving (in 6 days). A friend of ours has our dog and will ship him once we have a house. I'm putting the cats on a plane next week and DH will pick them up. Because of the quick turn around, we don't have a house, I don't know where we're going and I have no idea how long it will be before we see our stuff. It's going into storage until the movers can pick it up. Dh drove out with a big bag of DS's toys and books. I'll be driving out too. (My best friend is flying out to do the drive with me and DS)
Aside from the obvious..important documents, clothes. What do I need? I'm kicking around mailing a couple of boxes of clothes and DS's toys.
Re: Help me think....
Wow, talk about quick turn around!
My friends in the military are experts at this - having to think about what to pack to bring, what to pack/ship to arrive soon, and what to pack that may take days/weeks to arrive. I don't have any brilliant advice, but maybe Google the topic of relocation for military spouses. I wonder if you could find a list on USAA or something that give suggetitons about what needs to be packed for short term vs. long term.
My MIL just did this, she built a house in Alabama with her new husband and they just retired from the Air Force and moved from England. They had to decide what to take on the plane from England to Alabama (immediate, immediate stuff), what to mail (remember, that's always an option too - stuff that may be too much to carry on your car trip) so that it's in AL when they arrive, and what could be packed and put on the freighter, which won't arrive for several weeks. I know it takes a ton of organizing!
