3rd Trimester

Vent

My SIL just told me on FB that "you shouldn't be in the sun when preggo".

Umm..  So all summer I should stay in?

I've been going to the pool almost daily; I take a 15-20 minute break (inside) every hour.  I wear a hat.  I wear SPF 50 and reapply often.  I'm in a pool the entire time.  I have not burned at all.  It's a small inflatable pool that is my own, so there is not harsh chemicals in it.  Just water.

Pregnant or not, you should be safe in the sun.  I'm not dumb enough to stay out there all day without breaks or taking safe measures.

UGH!  I hate when people give "advice".  I'm not looking forward to when this baby comes and the advice we'll get.

Re: Vent

  • Yup that is crazy advice.  I am in TX and in the sun pretty much every day with my kids. Funny my OB never mentioned it lol!  Maybe your SIL thinks you won't know when you are getting overheated?

  • It would be near impossible to stay inside all summer and avoid all sun unless you got stuck with bed rest.  You need to still have a life and there's nothing wrong with some time outdoors and in the water.  Enjoy!

  • I was told to avoid the sun by my OB's office. I was retaining a lot of fluid and I was burning even with SPF 50. If your not burning then your fine. He should just relax. Enjoy the sun while you can!
  • I say slap on some sunscreen and enjoy!

Sorry you have to deal with all the unwanted advice... I'm sure it gets very annoying!  I haven't had to deal with that as of yet, but DH's family will not let up on the "It still could be a boy" comments.  Drives me nuts.

  • I had some guy tell me his wife lost 3 babies from being out in the sun too much....just going to keep the comments to myself...but just drink lots of water and enjoy absorbing the natural Vitamin D. My dr actually recommended going out for a little bit each day...unfortunately now I'm on bedrest trying to get all my vit d in supplements! Enjoy the sun and ignore the idiots!
  • Tell your SIL that the sun is actually good for the baby! I used to expose my belly to the sun all the time and the doc said that it is good in moderation!
  • Oh geez, people and their "advice"! I've gotten a lot of it too, like people telling me not to take baths or swim, I just roll my eyes. That is ridiculous though, I was out in the sun lying in the pool today (with sunscreen) for a couple hours. It was very relaxing!

The only time I'm comfortable is when I'm in the pool.

Gotta love that advice. I got a comment on FB one time (from more than one person) about not using chemicals when I clean the bathroom because it can hurt the baby.

Um.. ok? Do YOU want to come over and clean my bathroom for 9 months then? Obviously I don't use anything too strong and I leave the windows open for ventilation. Just cause we're pregnant doesn't mean we're stupid.
