At home preschool?

Have any of you done this or are you thinking of it now?   I'm seriously considering this.   The preschools we have found here, are either really pricey or not to our liking.  I want him to get a preschool curriculum, so I'm thinking that doing it myself will be the best bet.

If you have done this,  or are thinking of it, where did you get your materials?  Anything you can recommend?  I'm researching it on my own, but wanted to ask here too. :) Thanks!

  • Starting at the beginning of the year, I'm going to start doing more structured work with DD (circle time, etc.). But for right now, we have a Montessori-type area set up (a cube bookshelf) with activity trays. It has most definitely helped DD's fine motor and other skills. She really likes the activities.

  • We did an at home preschool group this year. It was five families and worked really well. One mom had an extra room we turned into our classroom and we purchased curriculum from Mother Goose Time. We only met once a week, so we ended up purchasing just three of the kits. The moms took turns "teaching" which was pretty simple because the lesson plans are all laid out. The kit also comes with everything for the arts and crafts. Because of the ages of our kids (mostly 2 year olds) we bought the infant/toddler supplement book and found it to be very helpful. Not sure if you have considered doing a group like this, but I found it to be a great way to share the responsibilities. If you want to go it alone, I think the Mother Goose Time sets would work well for that too.  I may buy a kit or two just to have some structured educational ideas around. The only reason that our group is not continuing is that two of the families are moving and the rest of us joined a great co-op preschool for next year.
