Parenting after 35

f/u to Hydrocele Surgery

I made an appointment for a 2nd opinion AND I booked the surgery.  I know that sounds weird, but I can always cancel (there's enough time in between) if I feel like I should wait until Aaron is older.

That being said, I've done a lot of research and the first doctor I saw is seriously one of the best around. He has offices in NYC and Long Island, too. So I know Aaron's in good hands.

Besides fears of him being put under, I also have to worry about keeping him calm without food!  He can't eat 6-8 hours prior to the surgery! As you know, I have a HUNGRY baby so this will NOT be fun. Oy vey!

The surgery is scheduled for July 16th. He'll be 11 months old.

I'm sure he'll do well whatever you decide. He's a trooper!
  • Can you schedule it for very early in the morning so that Aaron has slept all night and will really just be missing his breakfast meal?   That'll cut down on the hungry crankiness.

Can't agree more. He will be good.

  • Good luck. I'll be thinking of you and the baby.

I agree with you setting up the surgery now.  Most hospitals take the younger ones in early & there will be plenty of distractions at the hospital.  I am sure the hospital staff & doctors will take good care of you guys.  Our childrens hospital does an amazing job with the parents & kids.  But being your first & hopefully only surgery it still is so hard. I know the surgery will be harder on you & your husband!

The good news is he won't remember a thing!!!

(I was surprised at how well my 11 month old did waiting for surgery 3 years ago & shocked at how well my 2 yr old did recently for his recirc & not eating anything before his surgery at 11 am! Heck I am still a nervous wreck about my son's upcoming surgery in the fall.)

  • You are doing all the right things and I agree that Aaron won't remember a thing.  Of course it will be hard on you & DH, but we're here for you.

Prayers and good thoughts are coming your way :)

I wish! Apparently they schedule based on age?the youngest babies go first. So if there is a younger baby who also has surgery that day, he'll go first. I guess I'll see.
