could you tell me what happened in your situation... for ex: carried to term, PTL, or whether it lengthened back out?
On Thursday, my MFM told me mine now measured 2.7, down from 3.5. She's not too concerned, but did order a FFN the next day, which thankfully was negative. I sit down all day at work, so they just told me to take it easy and kick my feet up when I get home.
I mentioned the 17p injections, which they prescribed for me, even though they said there's been no studies that show they work on women who have never gone through PTL or for multiples. I guess it's a mind over matter thing for me, though.
Anyway, I'm just worried and hope the cervix lengthens or at the very least, stays this length!
Re: If your cervix started to shorten...
Every cervix and pregnancy is different. The literature on the 17P shots do not show any benefit when started this late.....but I guess it can't hurt!!
I have been on bedrest since 23 weeks when I started contracting and my cervix shortened from 3.1 cm to 2.3 cm in 6 days. My job is on your feet 60-80 hours a week, so with a desk job it would have probaby been fine.
My cervix yesterday varied from 3 cm at the beginning of the scan to 1.9 cm with major funneling upon valsalva. So it looks like bedrest (modified - not strict) has at least kept me going this long. I just can't do any strenuous activity.
My only advice is to be as restful as you can when not at work. The typicaly rate for a cervix to decrease in length for a twin pregnancy is 1-2 mm per week. So you can expect it to thin out....just hopefully not that quickly.
the negative ffn is good!
i started at 3.5 and went to 1.9, funneling at 23wk appt. went to .5, funneling at 28wk appt.
was told that sometimes cervix can measure longer but never truly gets longer again. as soon as pressure/strain is put that it will go back to the shorter length. anyone else get this info from their OB/PERI?
i didn't do the shots, but got prog supps so i could do it at home w/out additional dr. visits (on bedrest). hoped it might help w/my irritable uterus.
GL!
I'm exactly as far along as you so obviously I don't know what will happen in the future, but my cervix was funneling a little and shortened a lot (from 4.2 to 2.7) in a week and a half. I was put on bedrest + 17P + terbutaline to stop contractions (that I couldn't even feel). A week later my cervix wasn't shortening nearly as much and there was no more funneling. It was at 3.8 at that time. So it at least helped me improve. I was sitting down all day at work as well. Apparently that was still too much for me. I work at home now. I was feeling a lot of pressure "down there" even while sitting. I don't feel that at all when I'm laying down, so for me I think the bed rest is what's helping me.
Also, I posted about my issue a little bit ago and a lot of people had symptoms like ours and did not deliver really prematurely. Most of the people who responded were 35+weekers. So there's still hope!
