Let's talk about PP birth control...

So, at my 6 week PP check-up, I talked with my doctor about bc.  DH and I want to start trying for #2 next summer.  I DO NOT want to get pregnant before then, so I need some form of bc.  I decided to go on the mini-pill.  My doctor also talked about an IUD, but that is too long-term for me.  I've been on the pill for about 3 weeks and have noticed my milk supply has been affected.  I've been taking Fenugreek to try and counteract that, but now I'm thinking I should just go off the pill and use another form of bc.

  • mini pill here!
  • Condoms here. Well that and only having sex once every 2 weeks obviously decreases the odds Stick out tongue IUD was too long term for me, and the mini pill I just couldn't trust.

  • I'm so glad you posted this because I've been starting to think about what we are going to do after baby arrives.  Thanks!

Ooh, I forgot to mention that aspect of the mini-pill.  My doctor said I have to religiously take it at the same time every day or it could become less effective.  That scares the sh!t out of me!  I set an alarm on my phone, but there have been a few times when I haven't been able to take the pill right then.  Good thing DH has been OOT!  LOL!

  • Does being pregnant count as BC? :)
  • IUD for me....it CAN BE long term but my Dr. told me if next summer I decide I want to try again, all we have to do it take it out and Voila! As soon as its out, I can get pregnant. Well I won't be trying again that soon so I guess it works for me!
  • I've been thinking about what I'll do after I have this unplanned-conceived-with-an-IUD little one inside me. :-) I do not want to take the pill because I don't trust it. My mom got pregnant with both of her kids while taking the pill; I know - sometimes you can just take it at the wrong time, forget, etc. so it may just be your fault, but still. I loved my IUD. It was great (all except for that whole unplanned pregnancy part), and Josh and I both felt really good about it. I know that because I had the Paraguard with no hormones that that explains somewhat the reason I got pregnant. Nonetheless, I read an internet article about a woman who was in the same situation as I am in currently; after she had her little one, she got the Mirena IUD despite having conceived with an IUD in place. That's the option I'm leaning toward, because like PP said, it can be as short or long term as you choose.
  • I voted "other" because I'm using a combo of mini pill, condoms, and NFP.  Basically, we avoid on the 4 days around ovulation and use condoms the rest of the time.  I don't fully trust the mini pill, but its the best choice for me because of my migraines.  It might seem excessive, but, again becasue of my migraines, and the medication, a sibling would not be a good idea right now.

Though I have to ask, you're having sex while breastfeeding... on purpose?? I even tried to get a doctor's not to get me out of it! LOL

  • I'm not there yet obviously, but I think I'm going to go with Mirena.  We will probably wait 2-3 years between kids, but my dr said it's no problem to remove the IUD before then if we decide to & it shouldn't affect fertility.

Izzy is too old- so, unless you are bf'ing or pumping a heck of a lot the mini pill is ineffective at this stage for you!!!

  • I was seriously considering Mirena but instead went with a more permanent method since we are done with the bebes.

LOL oh no! Izzy's lease has been expired for some time. But the Mini pill is progesterone only, no?  That's what I have - the progesterone only kind.

  • Mirena here! I'm satisfied so far (all 2 weeks)

It is! But the effectiveness is such that most don't use it as a bcp unless they have issue with other bcp's once they stop bf'ing.  Do you dislike the combined one? I'd be paranoid with the mini..

    Us too...Huh?

  • I plan to get a Depo shot ASAP. I loved depo and had no problem coming off of it and getting pregnant so I'm going back on!

Actually, its primarily for the migraines, not bcp. The OBGYN & Neuro seem to agree that the mini pill is better that the low E kind for me right now.  Hence the triple precautions.   I think with 100% correct use its 80% effective according to the Planned Parenthood website.  Me no likey those odds right now Indifferent

Now migraine free... I might catch some of that number two flu going around.
