supernatural ability to sense pregnancy??

so we had a few of our neighbours over last night to have a BBQ, swim and just hang out.  Of course I was the only adult drinking water all night...  I was hoping noone would noticed since it was so HOT outside and I tend to drink alot of water in the summer. But I was inside getting some of the food ready and my husby comes in and says "Dan and Steve just said 'is there something you aren't telling us? should you be celebrating fathers day as well?'"  I was shocked!  are you kidding me!  I'm only 6 weeks, they can't know already!  We live with my in-laws and are telling them tomorrow night (we are going out to dinner and i have a tank-top that says "9 months" so as we sit down for dinner i am going to take my sweater off and hopefully they will read my tank top and be surprise!) But right now DH and I are the only two who know... or so we thought?  Dh said he walked in at the end of the conversation so he wasn't sure what his dad and the neighbours were talking about but I am a little upset about it.  I don't want anyone to know yet.  I have a m/c at 10 weeks last September and want to wait until at least 10-12 weeks to tell everyone I hope the surprise isn't ruined!

Re: supernatural ability to sense pregnancy??

  • some people just seem to "know" or they expect ... or they are just joking . all of the above happen. In our circle of friends we joke about it a lot. I wouldn't let it get you down it probably was just light hearted banter. You in laws will not know anything until you come out an tell them , even if they suspect. I would go ahead and go to dinner and tell them like you planned that sounds really sweet !

  • My apartment manager is a sweet old lady, we were sitting by the pool one night and out of the blue she goes I had a dream that you had you came to us this month and said you had to move. I asked her why and she said because we rented the apartment to the three of you I.e. my husband and I as well as the roommate. But not the baby I was going to have.

  • They probably took a guess since you were at a party drinking water. I doubt they have a sixth sense to detect pregnancy.

  • I don't know but that's annoying. One of my students, age 6, randomly stopped and stared at my stomach about 2 weeks ago, then slowly reached up one finger and gently poked me in the gut. I just blinked, then said, "Get on the bus!" None of my coworkers had noticed a change in my appearance, but obviously this little dude thought something looked different!

    Go figure!

  • My MIL and mom knew when I was 4 weeks.  I had barely peed on a stick and they just knew.  MIL is a preacher's wife so there was no alcohol anyway, she just pulled me aside and asked so we told them we weren't telling anyone yet.  We weren't telling my mom until we were good and ready because she can't keep her  mouth shut.  Next time, she won't even know we're ttc!
  • I don't think people can. I think they sense things because they notice you're eating differently or not drinking, or you may be hitting a certain point in your marriage or your 1st child is a certain age and everyone thinks that you should be having kids. My MIL told us she knew I was pregnant when she saw me on one Sunday. It was a Sunday before I even knew I was pregnant. She said it was because I was wearing a baggy T shirt and capris. Um, no, it was because I was feeling like a slob that day!

Now my dog on the other hand. I'm convinced he knew within hours of me getting pregnant! He was at my side in every room I went into for days before I found out. He still is!

  • Every time my step sister get's pregnant I have a dream about it a month or so before she tells anyone, and we aren't very close either, this time I hadn't seen her for about 4 to 5 months, we might have emailed once or twice. She is the only person I do this with, the only time I have a dream she is pregnant she comes out and says it a month or so later so it's not like I dream she is pregnant a lot and coincidentally once or twice is a hit but, with her first she had an ectopic and I dreamed there was something wrong 3 days before she found out, I didn't tell her about it though. My mom can do this too with certain people, like I said it's odd and I haven't ever had it happen with anyone else.

  • The guys at the party probably were just bantering you, although I believe some people just have a sense about those things.  My godmother, who is also like a second mom to me, said she knew I was pg a particular day I spent with her but she did not ask me about it.  Well at that time I was only maybe 7 days pg so I did not know yet!  I hope the reveal to your in-laws went well.  That was a really cute idea with the tank top.

  • My pets knew.  My family and friends did not. But we have 3 cats and a puppy and all seemed to know.  The puppy especially.  While I was laying on the couch, she jumped up and laid her head on my belly and got very calm.  (She is anything but calm.) It was kinda cool!
  • In the past, I have been able to sense when certain people were pregnant.  I either had dreams, or just a really strong intuition. And then, yesterday, I was really surprised when I told a friend that I was pregnant, and she said, "I knew it! - when I saw you 3 weeks ago, you just had a glow".  I thought that was wierd!  I looked in the mirror, and did not see any glow. Maybe you have that glow too!
  • My SIL and MIL both said they knew (we just told everyone last week) because they both heard me say recently that I wasn't planning on being at my job for much longer.  But I HATE my job (which they knew) and was job searching before I even knew I was pregnant!  Me saying that had nothing to do with being pregnant or not.

So just sometimes you say things that mean nothing about being pregnant, but people take them that way anyway.  ANNOYING! :)

  • I quit drinking and smoking about 2 1/2 months prior everyone knew we were ttc but we had been unsuccessful for 8 months. No humans caught on but I swear my dog knew the minute it happened. We didn't find out until I went in for surgery and my "just in case" pregnancy test came back positive.

I think there is some truth in peoples ability to sense it. My Grandmother, who has always been kind of "witchy" in that sense, was able to predict my sister in laws' pregnancy at my wedding before she had told anyone.

On another note, I think my dogs know.  They never leave my side, and are more protective than usual.  I think it's kind of sweet :)

  • I think people are just plain gossipers and need something to talk about. I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks and I told all of my family until I got an e-mail from my doc confirming the news. A day later my cousin called me and said that my dad's cousin (whom has not seen me in years) had given the news to everyone in my family who lives in another state!! And she had done this 2 weeks before I even know I was pregnant, I believe it was around the time I concieved. This really got me upset but like I said before it is just to gossip.
  • I think some people are just sensitive to certain clues that you think are insignificant.  And others just assume pregnancy when you've been married for a certain amount of time or your kids reach a certain age.  Anytime I say "guess what?" to my best friend she asks if I'm pregnant.  If I'm bloated or I rub my tummy, she asks if I'm pregnant.  She just happened to ask me a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant with my second child.  It doesn't mean she's in tune with my body, she just had good timing.

I got pregnant with my second son 2 weeks before my first son's 1st birthday.  I hadn't had any symptoms and hadn't taken a test until a few weeks later.  When we told our family my BIL said "I knew it!"  He claims he looked at me and wondered if I was pregnant at my son's birthday party a few weeks earlier.  Yeah, I doubt that he could tell I was pregnant when the egg had barely implanted in my uterus...

  • its probably just because you were drinking water when everyone else was drinking alcohol. people used to ask me that when my husband and i would go out and id just have water or something, but i wasnt pregnant i just had to drive home.

  • Some people have this sixth sense. A coworker of mine told me that she had a dream that I came in to work with a pregnant belly. I didnt think much of it then but 4 weeks later I found out I was preggers. She had the dream the night I conceived. Weird!

She had also predicted my other coworkers pregnancy when my coworker had no idea if she was pregnant yet until she went home and pee'd on the stick to find out.

  • Two days after I found out, my friend and I were starting our night shift at work. I had told her I was pregnant, but nobody else knew. When several of the nurses came up to the floor for the shift change, they made the comment my friend looked like she was glowing, and they told her she was pregnant. Lol. They found out a few weeks later that it was actually me who was pregnant, because I was constantly getting sick (like every hour). They thought I had the flu really bad. Lol. So much for woman's intuition on pregnancy, especially with all of the nurses having already had several kids and knowing all the signs.
  • I think people could tell, for some reason pregnant women does have a glow, cause majority of my girlfriends I personally seen the glow when they were pregnant. I love the way you was going to tell your in laws to cute!! Congrats!!!
  • I also believe that some people just know. I am now 7 1/2 months pregnant with my 4th baby and and my baby #3 who is now 6 but 5 at the time said Mom I think you have a baby in your belly. I was like what?? I had just found out I was pregnant and the only other person who knew was my Fiance. I wasn't showing and haden't been talking about it. It was crazy I told no there's no baby in there but she kept saying Yes there is I just know it!!!! So I do believe some people just know!!
  • My mom knew before I told her. She actually told me. I think some people just know and it's kinda funny but I usually know when other people are pregnant but had no idea or didn't want to accept that I was lol!
  • My dogs did the exact same thing.  One night my dog would not leave my side when I was at the house.  I couldn't get up from bed to go pee without him by my side for the whole 20 steps.  I didn't find out until a couple of weeks after that that we were 6 weeks along.  I definitely agree that the animals are more in tune with that.
  • I wouldn't get too upset about it. Like others have said some people can just tell. But maybe your drinking nothing but water gave it away to your very observant friend. Either way I think you IL will be very happy and suprised when you do let them know the big news, because its always best coming from the "horses mouth" instead of hearing it from everyone else.

  • I do fairly well on picking up on it. I guess people just have a sense or feeling sometimes.
  • My mother was just like that. She 'knew' before we planned on telling them. It was freaky
